Frida Giannini went back to her roots for Gucci's Resort 2013 collection, employing the same Flora print she used in her 1997 debut collection of accessories. Covering everything from a floor-length burgundy gown to a leather shoulder bag, the print's flower-child sentiments align perfectly with the '60s and '70s shapes Giannini created in pastel pink, lavender, and pale blue. The designer said she wanted to espouse "the effortlessness of Marisa Berenson and Veruschka, influenced by a contemporary intuition to wear color and print." She seems to have succeeded on both scores.
Stella McCartney Rings In Resort '13 With a NYC Garden Party
What better way to celebrate the coming of Resort than with a chic garden party to ring in the new collection and the start of Summer. That's just what Stella McCartney did, hosting a preview that doubled as a chic Summer fete. Among the celebrity guest list, Anne Hathaway showed off her pixie cut and stepped out in a crisp white suit, while Solange Knowles tapped into her signature love of color with a brightly-hued McCartney mini. Meanwhile, models strolled the party grounds in Stella's latest looks — a lineup of fresh printed suiting, charming collared blouses, cropped trousers, and pleated skirts, and a spunky mix of plaid and leopard print. Aside from the new line, the main attractions were surely the adorable lemonade stand, croquet, and carnival games (even Solange took a turn wielding the hammer at the strongman game). Step inside for a glimpse of Stella's sweet Summer celebration — and a peek at her latest Resort wear.
Shop It Now: House of Lavande Resort 2013
Estate jewelry curator Tracy Smith is taking her keen eye for baubles to a whole new level with a line of original jewelry for House of Lavande. Launching for Resort 2013 and inspired by Smith's Palm Beach home, the new line is made up of glimmering statement pieces — earrings, collar necklaces, cuffs, and cocktail rings — all of which are embellished with Swarovski crystals, dyed wood, resin, and natural stones in a watercolor palette of aqua, violet, coral, and green. Priced from $450 to $3,500, these gorgeous jewels won't hit stores until November, but they are available for preorder on Moda Operandi now through June 15. See the entire selection here.
10 Crosby Derek Lam Resort 2013
Molly Ringwald's character in Pretty in Pink inspired Derek Lam's Resort 2013 collection for his year-old line, 10 Crosby. So it makes sense that Lam would hire flame-haired model Sara Blomqvist to star in the lookbook for the lineup, which depicts what seems to be a glamorous trip back from the corner store. Accessorized almost exclusively by plastic and paper grocery bags bearing the 10 Crosby logo, Blomqvist wears Lam's signature silk pajamas, along with a few borrowed-from-the-boys pieces like a double-breasted blazer and an icy-blue collarless dress shirt with black sleeves. Ringwald's '80s influence is felt in the pleasantly discordant mix of patterns and colors — a red plaid shirt paired with blue-, black-, and white-striped pants, for example, and a plaid blazer over a white shirt and pleated skirt.
Boy by Band of Outsiders Resort 2013
Scott Sternberg took inspiration for his Boy by Band of Outsiders Resort 2013 collection from a place that's very familiar to him: his home. The designer attributed the influence of the collection's geometric patterns — including the stripes applied to a hoodie, skirt, blazer, and various dresses — to his Bauhaus-inspired abode in Los Angeles. But the line isn't all graphic prints: there are a few pieces that feature a sailboat graphic, a leather skirt trimmed in seersucker, and a short green trench coat with floral print sleeves. But some of Sternberg's best pieces are solid staples: a black evening gown and a white jumpsuit stand out among the other truly excellent pieces in this collection.
