Kate Middleton was spotted walking her new puppy, Lupo, outside; she dressed for the weather in a cozy short shearling jacket by LK Bennett, skinny jeans, Le Chameau boots, and a wool hat. It's a great time to buy a shearling because Winter items will be on sale, and a good shearling coat is something you'll wear for years to come. We also dig her Le Chameau boots, which are utilitarian and timeless. Click our widget to shop Kate's casual look.
If you're looking for fur and shearling in small doses, we suggest you try out this season trend on a handbag or clutch. Bag swaps are the easiest way to update a look, and the best part? These shearling and fur bags can easily go several ways: pair them with leather leggings, booties, and a sweater for a cool day look; dress it up with a minidress for an evening ensemble; or follow Karolina Kurkova's lead, shown here on the Michael Kors Fall 2011 runway, and go for silky pants and an oversize knit for ultimate luxury. The result will inevitably feel cozy, but totally cool. Peruse the slideshow to see our top 10 picks and why we love them. Don't forget, a little can go a long way.
We absolutely love the look and feel of Winter vests. They're a supremely functional layering piece that can be paired with everything from long dresses to jeans and sweaters, plus they work in Spring and Fall, too. On the Fall 2010 runway, Winter vests were styled so fashionably, they defined the outfit, and between shearling, faux fur, real fur, leather, and puffers, there are more than a few ways to wear the look. That said, we've helped narrow it down with 15 of our favorites; now it's up to you to get one and style it out your way.
For the fearless at heart, an aviation adventure — complete with a bird's eye view of the flora and fauna down below — is the ultimate weekend getaway. This ensemble, comprised of a smooth Maje aviator jacket, See by Chloe mustard plaid trousers, and Thakoon wedge boots will leave you feeling high whether you're on or off the ground.
Left to right: Maje Shearling Aviator Jacket ($870), Cooperative Peter Pan Bow Blouse ($54), See by Chloé Plaid Pants ($126, originally $420), Ray-Ban Aviator Sunglasses ($129), Oak Black Label Aviator Cap ($228), Thakoon Wedge Boot ($1,045), Bing Bang Locket Necklace ($175), Sartego Quartz Watch ($90), Asos Leather Harness Backpack ($167)
There's nothing that will add more cozy-cool to your look than a shearling jacket. Contrasted with leather, suede, denim, or even military twill, the fur-like finish is fresh and oh-so seasonal. Cuddle up in a cool shearling and leather bomber ($40) thrown over pretty separates or your favorite Fall dress, or try shearling-adorned denim ($78) with military cargos. Shearling jackets are cool, but I have to say, MissBehave's shearling vest is giving me major feelings of envy right now. In fact, I was so inspired, I decided to re-create her entire look. It's a totally fresh take on the shearling trend, plus she wears it incredibly well paired with tan trousers and brown platforms. Chic sheep all the way.
Congrats to MYFF!
Everyone else, submit your looks, and I might feature you on FabSugar!
I MUST own a shearling this fall/winter. I was already lusting after one but when I stumbled on this pic from the September issue of Harper's Bazaar Spain, I am completely convinced.

The first time we remember seeing fur gauntlets crop up this season was in the striking Balenciaga Pre-Fall collection and, come to think of it, the Prada one too. Needless to say, we think this trend is about to become as eponymous as lace was last fall or as thigh-high boots will be this season as well. In New York, Donna Karan, who vowed not to use fur this season, rendered hers in shearling. In London, Giles Deacon styled his with bare shoulders, and in Milan, Salvatore Ferragamo showed off a trademark penchant for luxurious monochrome.
Stella McCartney's clothing is often just as likable on the runway as it is when it appears in stores--this is probably because she always strikes a nice balance between a unified concept (runway) and attention to individual garments (stores). We're loving the lace and navy velvet looks from her Fall 08 collection and the shearling jackets that are were so voluminous they looked like fur. Maybe that's McCartney's way of showing the industry that vegans are no less luxe. To see the Stella McCartney Fall 08 collection, click here.
