Cleavage, midriff, legs — body parts known for their sexiness. But shoulders, those are a woman’s subtly sensual weapons. There was lots of shoulder love this year, as exemplified by Dita Von Teese in Vivienne Westwood. When picking the perfect party frock this season, show those shoulders. Whether it’s one-shoulder, off-shoulder, cutout, or puff sleeve dresses, allow the sculptured part of your body be the focus.
Black is back. But while most stars are turning to LBDs, Lindsay Price is doing her own thing. The actress attended the 2nd annual H.E.L.P. Malawi fundraising event in NYC in an all-black ensemble that dazzled from head to toe. I love that she paired up different fabrics — a satin tulip skirt with a rayon cocoon top. The oversized stone and chain necklace and gold sandals provide just enough variation. What a wonderful holiday party outfit!

Shoulder love is getting even more love from moi. Check this out: Without the gathered sleeves, this Ella Moss Cassidy Minidress ($70, originally $178) would be an ordinary V-neck dress. Luckily the not-so-subtle ruching saves the day by lending a touch of high-fashion style. The coral color is lovely, but the dress also comes in black if you're looking for something more serious. Get in on the shoulder action while it's hot.
Janet just wanted a little shoulder bopping and head snapping time with her man. I totally get that. There are lots of songs about romance, but what about when your other half isn't doing much for you, lately? Attitude is one thing Janet had; she also had really big shoulder pads, but let's focus. Though I've never experienced a girls against boys dance-off in a diner, if it's going to be like this, I certainly want to. This song has a killer beat and a steadfast groove. Janet was also a master of group choreographed numbers, like this one. Please also note her gold lamé shirt, black blazer, and unmistakable smile (those chubby cheeks!).
The stars continue to mingle in sunny LA for the Summer TCAs. Our favorite Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester, gave Pop some perspective on how things have changed over the past year, and we got some profound insight into the fabulous Zac Posen dress she was wearing.
Profound, as in, some profound shoulder love. As she put it, "I feel kind of sleeve-y. I feel like a better version of the '80s right now." When asked if there were shoulder pads involved, the classy dame retorted, "It's just shoulders." Phew! No Gossip Girl should be caught dead in shoulder pads.
Any white top that can hold my attention for more than two seconds is a good one. This 3.1 Phillip Lim Ruched Sleeve Top ($175) that Rachel Bilson wore out in NYC is unlike many other white T-shirts out there. It serves the purpose of being effortlessly casual but piques your interest because of the delicately ruched sleeves. And, it's relatively inexpensive for being by Phillip Lim, wouldn't you say? I wasn't lying when I said it's all about the shoulder love!

Take a cue from these shining stars and show some shoulder love. I prefer Anne's simple, angular frock, but feel free to make a bold statement a la Charlize in decadent Giambattisa Valli or get sweet like Sienna's Dior. The trick to shoulder love is making sure the top portion fits you to perfection — we don't want you looking like a burly football player.
