Rouge Alert: Lips and Eyes Star in Chanel's New Beauty Film

Chanel's makeup department pays tribute to the legendary fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld in a new video about its Rouge Allure lipsticks.

Chanel's makeup department pays tribute to the legendary fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld in a new video about its Rouge Allure lipsticks. Like Blumenfeld's iconic January 1950 cover of Vogue, this Solve Sundsbo-directed clip features nothing more than a pair of red lips and green eyes. The rest of model Barbara Palvin's visage fades in with the one-minute video's cream background. While Goldfrapp's "Strict Machine" plays in the background, Palvin's lip color changes to reveal the other shades in the collection. See Blumenfeld's original work of art in motion in the video below.

H&M has released additional images from its Fall 2012 ad campaign, featuring Lana Del Rey photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The brand released two teaser images of the singer wearing a pink sweater in mid July, and the new ads see Del Rey attired in more of the brand's seasonal offerings.

The ads will be accompanied by a music video for Del Rey's cover of "Blue Velvet," directed by Johan Renck, which will debut on Sept. 19. Edited versions of the music video will be used as television commercials.

"Lana is totally unique, and we wanted to create a print and film campaign that's just as special," said H&M creative director Donald Schneider. "The mood is very LA noir and is inspired by our Fall collection, which also fits with Lana's own personal style."

Del Rey will also appear in a second set of ads shot by Solve Sundsbo that will feature H&M's Winter clothing. Those ads are expected to be released later in the year. For now, a glimpse of H&M's Fall campaign in the gallery.

Those stories and more in our daily news roundup.

  • Naomi Campbell is set to star in her very own reality modeling show called The Face. The show, which will air on Oxygen starting next year, will see Campbell and two other as-of-yet-undetermined supermodels supervising three teams of models who will compete until one is chosen as the face of a brand in the United States. "With The Face the audience will get a real insider's look at this exciting industry that has been so good to me," Campbell said. [The Huffington Post]

  • Kate Moss is donating a portrait of herself taken by Solve Sundsbo to a May 17 auction sponsoring Britain's National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The portrait features Moss wearing nothing but a pair of gold pants and crossing her arms to cover her breasts. Its starting price is £3,000, or $4,866 at current exchange. [Vogue UK]

  • Linda Evangelista will find out this week whether a judge will grant her the $46,000 a month in child support she requested from PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault to help raise their 5-year-old son, Augustin. Evangelista revealed that Pinault was Augustin's father when she filed for child support in late 2011. Pinault is married to actress Salma Hayek; the two have a 4-year-old daughter named Valentina. • Alice Temperley is working with British high street label John Lewis on a capsule collection that will debut in September. Called Somerset by Alice Temperley, the line will range from $50 scarves to a $1,600 sheepskin coat. Day dresses will hit the $160 mark. "I wanted it to be very much a collection of essentials and to design a collection that would provide a feminine and functional wardrobe for women in their everyday life," Temperley said. • There's been no formal explanation of why The Gap fired its creative director Patrick Robinson, but former members of the retailer's executive team say "his designs seemed lost on Gap customers." He also didn't want customers to see clothes styled any other way than how he showed them originally. "Merchants were literally told, 'You don’t get to change the product as it's presented,'" one former merchant recalled. [Fashionista]

Naomi Campbell Guest Edits Vogue Russia's Naomi-Only April 2010 Issue

>> The single-model issue concept is picking up steam, and it's only logical that Naomi Campbell, newly a Russian resident, should have an entire issue of Vogue Russia.

>> The single-model issue concept is picking up steam, and it's only logical that Naomi Campbell, newly a Russian resident, should have an entire issue of Vogue Russia. Editor Aliona Doletskaya says of the April 2010 issue, which is dedicated to Naomi and which the model helped edit [Editor's note: loosely translated from Russian]: "I wanted to debunk a few myths surrounding Naomi.  When I suggested the concept, she immediately came and for an hour and a half laid out stories, photography, interviews and other sections. Clearly, quickly, and in a businesslike manner."

In the issue, out March 25, Christian Louboutin, Chanel Iman, Claudia Schiffer, Mario Testino, and more were prompted to ask Naomi what they have previously hesistated to ask her. Steven Meisel, Tom Munro, Matt Irwin, and Solve Sundsbo photographed the model's editorials.
