Paris Fashion Week just closed its last show, and if the makeup and hair I've seen on display in the last few days are any indication, we're gearing up for an absolutely gorgeous 2011. The catwalks were lavish with jewel box tones, soft, glossy hair, and patent shine. There's no need to wait six months to jump on these looks, so go on — step into Paris in the springtime.
After a successful collaboration with H&M, Sonia Rykiel has got the hang of branching out. In September, the French fashion house will venture into new territory with a debut collection of home décor licensed by furnishings company Lelievre. The line will include fabric, accent pillows, rugs, beanbags, and throws featuring floral patterns and of course, Sonia's signature multicolored stripes. “It’s about humor, comfort, and a cool, bohemian vibe,” said house president Nathalie Rykiel. Luxuriously girlish, you can expect to see velvets, faux fur, silk, and even rhinestones! And with a classically flirty Left Bank attitude, some items will be emblazoned with quirky wordplays like "Home Chic Home" and "Blonde," "Brune," and "Rousse" (Blonde, Brunette, and Redhead).

Other standouts exhibited a variety of colors, textures, and cuts. Jennifer Lopez reminded us of her performer prowess, while all eyes were on Michelle Williams at the Cannes Film Festival; here she is looking like a mod doll in Sonia Rykiel. And we have an Ed Westwick appearance for those already missing Gossip Girl . . .
Mommy and me dressing appears to be gaining popularity. While some designers have been creating the look for years, family dressing recently took center stage on Project Runway and is now filling displays at H&M stores across the country.
Sonia Rykiel, the Paris-based "Queen of Knits," is returning to her roots in her new partnership with discount fashion store H&M. The designer, who started her line when she was pregnant and couldn't find comfortable sweaters to cover her growing bump, just introduced her Spring collection for H&M, including a handful of precious designs for tots (18 months to 8 years). The black, yellow, hot pink and baby pink pieces ($4 - $70 each) feature feminine details, such as ruffles and bows that match mama's pieces in the collection.

Chanel Iman DJ'd at the Sonia Rykiel for H&M knitwear launch party last week, and today I've got the goods for you, piece by piece. The palette consists of black, yellow, hot pink, and baby pink; stripes are aplenty, rhinestone studs sparkly. Frilly dresses, classic cardis, cuffed shorts, and platform shoes round out the rest. The collection's launch is tonight at Bobo in the West Village, with Chanel Iman making her DJing debut on deck. Sonia Rykiel's second (and most highly anticipated) collection for H&M will debut in stores on February 20th. Following the lingerie line which included boudoir-style evening wear, the new knitwear pieces are classically French and distinctly Rykiel. Cheerful striped sweater dresses and tops mix with dotted leggings, sailor shorts and jumpers for a decidedly fun take on spring fashion.
