One of the most enticing aspects about the new year is the prospect of pushing reset, replay, and renew on your styling outlook. Get Playful With Friends & Associates Spring 2013

Come warm weather, everyone needs a carefree uniform to slip on.
Friends & Associates Spring 2013 | Pictures

Come warm weather, everyone needs a carefree uniform to slip on. Baseball tees, boxy shifts, tennis skirts — they're the stuff of summertime wardrobe dreams. And if they come in fabrics like watery silk or can't-look-away gingham checks, then all the better.

That's the premise, anyway, behind Matthew Edelstein's label Friends & Associates, and it's a premise that works. For these are jaunty separates and airy silhouettes that not only scream playtime — bike rides, picnics, boating — but they're also grown-up enough that they'll fit right in on a city rooftop with a cocktail in hand. One wide-cut t-shirt dress in vibrant Little Orphan Annie red, for example, is actually made of buttery silk, while a black and white plaid skirt is made all the more kicky thanks to the cheery addition of godet pleats.

Though this latest collection won't be available until April (just in time for fireflies and capture the flag), the debut Resort 2013 collection is available to shop now on the brand's website. An exclusive look at the full Spring 2013 collection — priced $129-$415 — right here.

Come February, Nicola Formichetti's first handbag offering for Mugler will finally make its way to stores.
Mugler Spring 2013 Bag Collection | Pictures

Come February, Nicola Formichetti's first handbag offering for Mugler will finally make its way to stores.

"This is now my fourth collection as creative director of Mugler," Formichetti said. "I was interested in creating sculptured objects in 3D, a piece of the Mugler world that one can carry around."

The rigidly structured bags are aligned with the edgy futurism of Formichetti's Spring 2013 collection for the brand, combining metallic calfskin with snakeskin, embossed leather, and crocodile. Two of the bags even feature a 3D tortoiseshell print. Prices range from $1,050 for a leather clutch to $18,000 for a bag made from patent crocodile.

Stateside, the bags will be available at Barneys, Maxfield, Opening Ceremony, Patron of the New, and Joan Shepp stores next month. Shopbop, Moda Operandi, and Luisa via Roma will sell the bags on their websites.

Marissa Webb Dishes on Her Debut Spring '13 Collection

As the former J.Crew VP of womenswear design, it's safe to say Marissa Webb has a black belt in creating irresistibly chic and effortlessly cool pieces for the everyday woman.

As the former J.Crew VP of womenswear design, it's safe to say Marissa Webb has a black belt in creating irresistibly chic and effortlessly cool pieces for the everyday woman. Last year, the designer branched out on her own to create her very own namesake line launching in Spring '13. Her debut collection features modern, streamlined silhouettes highlighting tailored blazers, fun sequined tops, zipper-embellished trousers, and a lot of leather. The latter features a range of refreshing silhouettes like Bermuda shorts and a leather skirt and tulle that's nothing short of channeling Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Meanwhile, a smattering of silk bow blouses and peplum details add a ladylike tilt to her cool-cum-classic collection. We spoke to Marissa about the inspiration behind her debut namesake collection, who she wants to see wearing it, and her favorite piece(s). Read below to see what she has to say, then click on to see her Spring '13 lookbook.

On which celebrity she would like to see wearing her new collection: "I have to admit I have a serious girl crush on Cate Blanchett. I honestly think she could pull off a burlap sac. I would be beyond thrilled to see her in a Marissa Webb item."

On the kind of woman she envisioned while designing her collection: "The woman I have in mind is confident, unique, and has a really great sense of her own personal style. I admire a strong, independent woman that also has a sense of humor about herself."

On the one piece from her collection she thinks every woman should own: "I think there's an item for everyone in this first collection. There are a number of leather styles that I personally love, like the Murphy leather tutu skirt. This item embodies both the soft and hard, the contrast that the Marissa Webb label is about. There are also many items that feel a bit more 'classic' that I think works well into any wardrobe."

The New School of High Shine: 13 Holographic Pieces For Right Now

If you thought high shine was a descriptor most frequently used in reference to lip gloss, or if the last time you heard the word "hologram" had everything to do with Tupac's epic "appearance" at this year's Coachella festival, then you might want to reboot your current outlook on all things shiny, slicked, and rainbow prismatic.

According to countless Spring '13 runways — including Burberry, Jonathan Saunders, Theyskens' Theory, and Proenza Schouler — it's hard to ignore the resurgence of iridescent finishes, holographic accents, and all-out mirrored effects taking shape on both clothing and accessories. Since this eye-catching detail borders on party-girl sparkle and sci-fi cool, the toughest part about actually wearing it is parlaying it into something tangibly chic, rather than veering into comic-book-character territory. Thus, to keep you on the right styling path, we've rounded up 13 in-season pieces that have earned our holographic stamp of approval for right now and into next year. Check out a paliette-embellished skirt, a futuristic shoulder bag, a sweatshirt (that's actually not so casual), and more — right this way.
