Spring Ad Campaigns

To help boost its style cred, Esprit has once again tapped Gisele Bündchen for its latest ad campaign. This time, Gisele is modeling its March collection, wearing a colorful array of Spring-perfect pants, striped tops, and lightweight knits. Apparently, the supermodel has a love for bright colors: "What do you feel like when you see someone in the streets wearing bright colors? For me, I automatically think this person is fun," said Gisele. "In the summertime, you walk in the streets of New York and you see pops of orange, red, yellow, green — it's like sunshine." Julianne Moore is the face of Talbots, a brand that until now, we always associated as a favorite of great-aunt Mabel. Yet here is the new ad campaign, shot by Mert and Marcus, featuring Julianne Moore looking fresh, pretty, and, dare we say, totally chic in Talbots's Spring collection. The campaign inspired us to take a closer look at Talbots, and flipping through the Spring lookbook we are thrilled with our finds: a full denim skirt, bohemian jewelry, a snake-print shoe with a lucite heel among them. This isn't any old Tuesday. A slew of very cool, brand-spanking-new Spring shoes debuted today on the Loeffler Randall site, bringing exotic prints, sophisticated heels, and sexy sandals to the very top of our priority shopping list. We have a project for you this weekend. Street style has become a major part of contemporary fashion, and Rag & Bone designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright are taking the personal perspective one giant leap forward. Instead of doing a traditional Spring ad campaign, the designers handed cameras to their favorite models — Sasha Pivovarova and Abbey Lee Kershaw among them — and let the girls produce their own shots, wearing their own Rag & Bone duds. Fashion has always played with androgyny, but lately it has taken a provocative step onto center stage. Remember when Balenciaga sent a bevy of androgynous-looking models, including the fierce Jana K., down the Spring '11 runway? Since then, we've seen Lea T. smooching Kate Moss on the Love cover, a major moment for the transsexual model who made her debut as the Givenchy muse. Jean Paul Gaultier's Spring '11 ad features Karolina Kurkova leaning in for a kiss with a beautiful blonde that looks like a girl, but it's delicate-looking male model Andrej Pejic. Katie Holmes follows up her sultry Elle spread with an equally sultry, albeit more covered-up, Spring ad campaign for Ann Taylor.
