Stella McCartney Kicks Off London Fashion Week With Kate, Rihanna, and Alexa

London Fashion Week kicked off yesterday with a magical presentation from Stella McCartney.

London Fashion Week kicked off yesterday with a magical presentation from Stella McCartney. Many of Stella's friends came out to see her Winter 2012 London Evening Collection, which began with a vegetarian dinner for the likes of Kate Moss, Jamie Hince, and photographer Mario Testino. Models were seated at the tables with guests, and following the meal, excused themselves to perform a choreographed dance routine in Stella's designs. The fun didn't stop there for one guest. Alexa Chung was called to the stage by a magician who hypnotized her and then levitated her body above swords! Stella herself got in on the games by performing a card trick.

Rihanna wore a sexy dress for the party as well. After posing for photos on the red carpet in a sexy jewel-toned gown, she met up inside with Kayne West. Rihanna turns 24 on Monday, and started her celebrating last week at a private post-Grammy party in LA. Another young star, Shailene Woodley, mingled with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, fashion icon Twiggy, and actress Minnie Driver. Shailene doesn't have an Oscar dress yet, but said at the bash, "I have no idea what to wear, so yes, I’m always looking for red carpet dresses."

Stella McCartney's Fall 2012 Presentation Event

>> This season, Stella McCartney decided to forgo her usual show in Paris for an intimate — and unorthodox — dinner presentation at London Fashion Week. Around 100 guests — including Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, Yasmin Le Bon, and Rihanna — attended the Saturday evening event, which began with a magic show and finished with a formal jazz band. The real excitement, however, came with the presentation of McCartney's Fall 2012 collection. While guests dined unassumingly at their tables, models burst forth from the crowd — flash mob-style — in an energetic display of table-dancing, chair-passing, and rowdy hip-shaking. "It was nice to see something different, something dramatic. The clothes looked great," guest Bianca Jagger exclaimed.

>> Those stories and more — here in our daily news roundup.

  • Brad Goreski's new biography, Born to Be Brad, hits bookstores March 6 — and it's reportedly full of some surprisingly sordid details, including cocaine and alcohol abuse. "I was in our bathroom, staring in the mirror, and I didn't recognize myself," Goreski writes. [Stylecaster]

  • Speaking of March 6, that's the day Kanye West will be taking his second stab at Paris Fashion Week. Now, rumors are swirling that he may also be planning a line for Topshop. However, Topshop's CEO Sir Phillip Green, who was spotted having lunch with West in London, denies that a collaboration is in the works. [Fashionista]

  • Looks like Karlie Kloss is skipping New York Fashion Week; The Daily Beast's Isabel Wilkinson confirmed the news today via Twitter. "Karlie Kloss won't walk in New York Fashion Week this season because of an 'engagement that has come up,' says her spokesperson," Wilkinson said. [Styleite]

  • James Franco has directed and shot the latest 7 For All Mankind campaign, featuring Lily Donaldson, Henry Hopper, and Amber Anderson. The campaign — which the brand describes as an "innovative multimedia experience that embodies the brand's California roots and 'forever cool' aesthetic" — launches on a dedicated You Tube channel Feb. 15. [Telegraph]

  • Despite a very successful design career, Stella McCartney doesn't think of herself as famous. "I don't think many people recognize me," the designer recently said. "I guess, I grew up with one of the most famous people in the world, so for me, I don't really see it." McCartney goes on to say that she still gets excited when seeing her designs on strangers in public: "I'm embarrassing when I see someone in the street with one of my bags, I'm like 'nice bag'. It's really embarrassing, I need to stop actually!" [Vogue UK]

  • CFDA Fashion Fund winner Joseph Altuzarra has quite a sweet tooth. The designer — who shows his Fall 2012 collection this Saturday — recently divulged the 12 things he can't live without. Among the goodies on the list? Billy's Bakery carrot cake. "It's my all-time favorite. Nothing beats eating a slice in bed while watching TV." [Elle Decor]

No matter where in the world Amber Heard is strolling, she always stands out with her uniquely fashion-forward taste.

No matter where in the world Amber Heard is strolling, she always stands out with her uniquely fashion-forward taste. Her latest sighting at The Grove in LA proves that she's a master at the art of layering. It also solidifies the fact that she's obsessed with mid-calf skirts. This time, Amber layered a black ruffle-neck dress over a sheer white skirt and topped it all off with a super-luxe camel coat by Boss Black. For accessories, the actress carried a Stella McCartney bag and wore ankle-strap wedges on her feet. While this ensemble isn't the easiest one to re-create, it should inspire you to be fearless, like Amber, when it comes to layering unexpected pieces. If you're as smitten with Amber's look as we are, shop similar pieces below.

    10 Uber-Chic Black-and-White Frocks a la Naomi Watts

Black and white have always been a killer team — both chic on their own, but together it's double the impact.

Black and white have always been a killer team — both chic on their own, but together it's double the impact. Case in point: Naomi Watts in a black-and-white Stella McCartney number in Sydney. Imagine the dress sans the white piping around the neckline; still fab, but not as wow-worthy. So let's take a lesson from Naomi's style book and add an uber-chic black-and-white dress to our wardrobes. And not any dress will do — it must have the same sleekness as the Stella, a bit geometric, with a classy air. Look no further than the 10 dresses we selected below. Wear them with coordinating accessories, like Naomi did, or with a pop of color for mega impact.
