Red Hot Deals: How to Save Even More at Target

You may think you're already saving money just by shopping at Target, but there are additional ways to save on your purchases.

You may think you're already saving money just by shopping at Target, but there are additional ways to save on your purchases. SavvySugar talked to Christy Palmer, the founder of the All Things Target blog, who gave the low-down on scoring great buys at the discount retailer. In one shopping trip, Palmer paid just 50 cents for $42 worth of merchandise. Here are her Target shopping tactics:

  • Combine coupons. One of the biggest ways Palmer saves is through combining a manufacturer coupon with a Target store coupon. "Target will allow you to use one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item, so it makes for some big savings," she says. "You can even get items for free by doing this."
  • Shop clearance. Buying clearance items is also another good way to save. Everyday items can be marked down up to 70 percent while you can see holiday merchandise discounted for up to 90 percent off. "I find that the best deals aren't always those that are in their weekly sales ad." The Target shopper says, "Some of the best bargains are on those clearance racks."
  • Know the weekly markdown schedule. It's easier to score discounts if you know which days the different departments will mark down their merchandise. Palmer shares a general schedule that most Target stores follow with us:

Monday: Electronics, Accessories, Kids Clothing, Books, Baby, and Stationary
Tuesday: Domestics, Women's Clothing, Pets, and Market (food items)
Wednesday: Men's Clothing, Health and Beauty, Lawn and Garden
Thursday: Housewares, Lingerie, Shoes, Toys, Sporting Goods, Decor and Luggage
Friday: Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, and Jewelry

Keep in mind that when Target marks down items, it generally starts off at 30 percent off, then 50 percent off, then finally to 70 percent off.

It's only natural that last week's news of the upcoming Target and Neiman Marcus CFDA designer collaboration would be followed by an all-out marketing blitz — and now, it's finally begun. First up: this just-released and pretty intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpse at the collaboration's starting point, which, logically, included lots of meetings in colorfully decorated studios and lots of fabric, print, and sketch reviews. The video shows all that, plus offers cameo appearances by nearly every one of the collaboration's key players, including — but not limited to — Diane von Furstenberg, Ken Downing, Eddie Borgo, Georgina Chapman, Robert Rodriguez, Tracy Reese, Stacey Bendet, and Prabal Gurung. See it all below, and keep those eyes peeled for any clues as to what the 50-piece Holiday collection might actually look like.

Target to Test Out a Beauty Concierge Service

When it comes to beauty, Target has been stepping up its game in recent years, with designer items from Jemma Kidd, Napoleon Perdis, and even Cos Bar lining its shelves.

When it comes to beauty, Target has been stepping up its game in recent years, with designer items from Jemma Kidd, Napoleon Perdis, and even Cos Bar lining its shelves. And now Target is set to test out a service component to its cosmetics aisle. This Sunday, the retailer will launch the Target Beauty Concierge program in 28 Chicagoland stores.

Mirror and iPad in tow, these advisers will be stationed at a special kiosk in the beauty department where they will dole out samples and cosmetics advice. So if you happen to be in the Chicago metro area for the next nine months (the length of time of the trial run), you can be greeted with a new kind of Target experience. And if the program is a hit, good news: Target may add the service to upward of 450 of its stores.

Watch: Coco Rocha Goes to Work for Target

Modeling takes serious skill, and one need look no further for proof of that than this video of Coco Rocha posing — sometimes in midair — for Target.

Modeling takes serious skill, and one need look no further for proof of that than this video of Coco Rocha posing — sometimes in midair — for Target.

Part of Rocha's job as guest editor of the Target Style Tumblr included some strategic jumping in front of photographer Tony Kim's camera, which was captured in this mesmerizing video exploring what goes into a cover shot. Each time Rocha launches herself into the air, she creates a new expression with her body. Watch it right here.
