"It's a little bit Americana," Thakoon Panichgul said when describing the Spring 2013 offering for his secondary line, Thakoon Addition. American motifs buzz here and there in the collection: red-and-white stripes are used liberally, and on one t-shirt, a blue floral print takes cover under a big white star. There is also no shortage of denim items — or at least ones that look like denim. Panichgul took Tencel and combined it with silk to create garments that look like chambray but actually aren't. And what could be more American than innovation in design?

>> Beginning with the Resort 2012 season, Thakoon Panichgul is really blowing out his Thakoon Addition diffusion line. Which means: For starters, showing it separately than mainline Thakoon; and secondly, lowering the price point to the upper end of the contemporary market (Panichgul says he plans to continue filling out the collection with lower-priced items.). With the easy cuts and colorful prints, this new iteration of Addition could very well give Marc by Marc a run for its money.
The spring 2010 lineup for Thakoon Addition—Thakoon Panichgul’s less expensive ready-to-wear offering—has just hit stores like Kirna Zabete and La Garçonne along with the resort deliveries. Fashion editors and PYTs are scooping up pieces from this little-sister-to-Thakoon collection with gathered detailing and asymmetrical ruffles, especially those dresses in washed floral prints. Although still not a bargain, the collection retails for around 20% lower than Panichgul's original line.

His lower priced line, Thakoon Addition, just hit stores last week and is already selling like hotcakes, with a number of editors sporting the line at the Cruise 2010 shows. As for his own Cruise 2010 line, Thakoon was all about texture — twisted dresses and tops and plenty of pleats. Prints ranged from bright watercolors to faded florals, with some tie-dye mixed in for good measure. The designer knows how to take care of a woman — when his Costume Institute Gala date Magdalena Frackowiak broke her heel in the middle of dinner, he missed Rihanna's performance to go grab a replacement.
