We are going to go out on a limb and say that the trim pixie and the cropped bob are out for Spring 2009 if the Paris runways have any influence, a pack of designers had us singing "gimme head with hair, long beautiful hair, shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen HAIR!" Whether it was the elaborate alien coifs at Dior, the anonymous glamazons at Martin Margiela, the petty Marie Antoinettes at Comme des Garçons, the puffy mussed coifs at Tsumori Chisato, or the piles of crimped puffs at Sonia Rykiel, designers just couldn't get enough hair!
Tsumori Chisato Gives A Welcome Explosion Of Color, Print, Texture, and Layering
Sure, shown together the Tsumori Chisato aesthetic can look like a magpie catastrophe, but dilute this collection with a "regular" coif and basics like black pants or a nice white tee-shirt elsewhere, and you've got that Chisato magic ready to turn you into a fashion superstar--we love the colors, we love the shapes, we love the insanity of it all. We like designers like Chisato and, say, Basso & Brooke, who show that dressing like a left of center, fashion kid doesn't necessarily mean ridding your closet of color in some Rad Hourani or Martin Margiela manner. Chisato gives credence to the claim that one can only truly be fashion forward with a little daring color or intense imagery. Chisato always feels so seventies and so the designer will probably never hear a bad word from us. Disco, after all, never goes out of style. We can't wait to see how Surface to Air puts together the Spring 09 advertisements. We think last Spring might be hard to beat.
Coutorture Community Must Reads 9/23
And here we go around the blogosphere again for another look at what products, designers, and pressing questions are captivating the hearts and minds of our beloved community.
Wardrobe Oxygen made us giggle, cheer, and even tear up a little as she turned one of fashion's favorite catch phrases "make it work" on its head. You see sometimes you just should't make a garment work. And in the immortal words of a certain lawyer named Elle Woods, if the fabric won't work with you don't work with it!
Spork Fashion has a really cute butt! No really, she is testing out Levi's Totally Sliming Jeans which are amazingly only $20 at Wal-Mart. We think this might be an example of the fabric working for you!
Platinum Blonde Life is in love with Lim's Louboutins (rolling those "L"s off the tongue was fun!) showing off a beautiful collage of look at me goodness.
Fasshonaburu has discovered Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato and is loving that its manga print cuteness translates to regular women.
15 Minute Beauty has let it be known that the YSL Black Lipgloss is here. OMG! We are obviously fans here at Coutorture as we have lost track of the amount of times we have referenced this collection.
Fab Finds of the Week: Let's Go Crazy!
Call me crazy, which I may very well be from looking through your Fab Finds this week. Crazy patterns were bright, dizzying and busy! They consumed jackets and tops, but far and away they covered dresses with their repetitive patterns and graphic shapes. Okay, I have to go take a breather now, before I end up in the looney bin...
The Fab Finder of the week is littlemissme, who found this pretty floral dress. Every week the Fab Finder I announce Monday morning will receive either a TeamSugar or FabSugar baby tee shirt. I thoroughly enjoy perusing your Fab Finds every week, so dare to be a Fab Finding trendsetter and you just might win a Sugar tee!
