A Fabby Halloween: Twiggy

Twiggy may no longer scream mod queen, but circa 1960s, she was highly popular for her high-fashion mod look. If you're looking to mimic someone with a bold, youthful signature style this Halloween, Twiggy is your girl. Inspired by the mod creations of English fashion designer Mary Quant, the supermodel wore everything from mini skirts to shift dresses, go-go boots to funky print dresses, sequins to plaid. Twiggy, whose real name is Lesley Hornby, wasn't merely known for her stick skinny body (hence the childhood nickname) and quirky fashion sense; she also spearheaded the application of fake lashes under bottom lashes and the androgynous pixie haircut. Groovy.

Halloween How-To: Twiggy

Back in the 60s, Twiggy was known for her pin-thin frame and gamine style.

Back in the 60s, Twiggy was known for her pin-thin frame and gamine style. Named "The Face of '66" by The Daily Express, this beauty icon made pale lipstick and penciled-in long lashes the epitome of mod fashion.

I'm loving Fab's grooved-out costume ideas, and I've got some great tips on how to recreate her distinctive, slightly androgynous hair and makeup. Carnaby Street, here you come! Check out my how-to below, along with a widget filled with color suggestions so that you can transform into this supermodel with ease.

Makeup:

  • Complexion — Keep the foundation light, letting your freckles shine through. Don't have any? Lightly dot on with an eyeliner, lip liner, or brow pencil in an auburn shade.

Being petite can make finding the perfect swimsuit quite a challenge.

Being petite can make finding the perfect swimsuit quite a challenge. Don't get me wrong, having a petite figure can be lots of fun! Smaller bodies can get away with loud prints and fun cuts. Avoid wearing solid colors and stay away from too much fabric.

ANTM: The Torture Continues

Poor Ambreal. This chick cannot catch a break.

Poor Ambreal. This chick cannot catch a break. Last week she was eliminated, only to get a reprieve because Ebony couldn't handle the b.s. anymore. This week, Mistress Tyra teaches the ladies how to slide down a wall "like a model," but instead Ambreal slides down a pole like a "hoochie." WTF?! She was supposed to look seductive at a club for a music video shoot! And I know that Twiggy was an iconic model from the 60's, but can we have crazy Janice Dickinson back? Either that, or someone tell me what "You need to pop through there" means.

Time to Eat Up, Twiggy: That Is, Insert Foot In Mouth

The girl that put skinny on the map is now grown up and speaking out against all the waif-like wannabes in Hollywood.

The girl that put skinny on the map is now grown up and speaking out against all the waif-like wannabes in Hollywood. Lesley Hornby, better known as "Twiggy," believes that actresses are to blame for the sudden surge in eating disorders, not models. Twiggy says:

"I think Hollywood stars are the worst perpetrators. Most models are naturally long and gangly, while a lot of these young girls in Hollywood have gone on extreme diets. Their concave chests and bony arms are terrifying. It's scary to think that normal teenagers are tempted to copy them."

In other news, two "naturally long and gangly" models recently died due to malnourishment, triggering some countries, such as Spain, to ban size zero models from their runways. This is a curious resolve, considering that the problem resides in Hollywood, not on the runway.
