Fashion In 50 Seconds 01/21/09 Barneys Spells Christian Louboutin Wrong & More

Barneys spelled Christian Louboutin's name wrong in a suspiciously downtrodden looking window display.

Barneys spelled Christian Louboutin's name wrong in a suspiciously downtrodden looking window display. Granted, window displays are also getting Barneys a lot of good press this morning too.

What's wrong with the menswear runways? In Italy, home of the all-black issue of Vogue, the runways are racially homogenous as usual

The Spring 09 United Bamboo ad campaign stars artist Terrence Koh. Outlandish and alienating? Or hip?

Pioneer of the premium *boyfriend* jean, Current/Elliot is finally, actually, making menswear. The new range will drop this season.

Statement Necklaces From Spring 2009

The statement necklace is here to stay and this Spring 2009 there were two distinct (but equally covetable) camps.

The statement necklace is here to stay and this Spring 2009 there were two distinct (but equally covetable) camps. Bauble necklaces cropped up at Burberry and Marni, they were colorful and mis-matched for the artistic Type-B chicsters. Then, there were those on the straight and narrow. Geometric necklaces cropped up at United Bamboo and VPL and they were Type-A all the way. The rule with personality types, remember, is that few people are just one type or the other. Bauble or geometric, it could just depend on the day.

Purple & Orange: The Colors For Spring 09

Purple and orange were two colors hard to ignore on the Spring 09 catwalks--purple, we've seen for some time and orange appeared, no doubt because of Prada and a few brave designers who used it last season.

Purple and orange were two colors hard to ignore on the Spring 09 catwalks--purple, we've seen for some time and orange appeared, no doubt because of Prada and a few brave designers who used it last season. Some designers, in fact, used both at the same time. In the spread above Basso & Brooke, Luella, and United Bamboo all employed this technique while designers like Christopher Kane and Modernist kept with one of the two colors, making them more interesting with texture and technique.

Backstage At United Bamboo

We're backstage for United Bamboo at our favorite venue for off site shows, the Altman Building. Designer Thuy Pham gave us a quick interview in which he revealed the inspiration for Spring 09 as being bright, bold, easy and yet still align with the trademark geometrics that Unied Bamboo is known for. The models are doing their walk through in their street clothes (which makes you think you're at an Alexander Wang show--but that's later today) and we just bumped into Eugenie Huang from Deka Ray, who will be accessorizing the models in her, also geometric, designs. Stay tuned...it's going to be a busy day.

Backstage Beauty: United Bamboo

I always enjoy United Bamboo shows because the clothing is forward-thinking.

I always enjoy United Bamboo shows because the clothing is forward-thinking. At today's show, the makeup was just as innovative, featuring a double-toned effect on eyes. In creating this look, Dick Page, Artistic Director of Shiseido The Makeup, referred to how teenage girls experiment with makeup. "It's probably more like what teenage girls of my generation would have liked, back in the 1700s," he joked.

As complex as the effect is, this look uses relatively few products. Page used the Color Stick on eyes, then brushed on a shiny, silvery aqua on the inner corner of the eye and the lid. Then, the outer eye gets a wing of copper-hued shadow. Skin was essentially bare—just a bit of concealer and powder—and lips literally were bare. Page sent the models out with nothing but lip balm, which inspired me to go nude for the rest of the day. (Well, on my lips, at least.)
