Vena Cava's Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai Want to See You in Thick-Platformed Sandals and Halter Dresses for Spring 2011

>> Next season brings bags from Vena Cava, but for Spring 2011, it was all about the debut of the seriously-platformed wedge sandals Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai did in collaboration with LA boutique TenOverSix.

>> Next season brings bags from Vena Cava, but for Spring 2011, it was all about the debut of the seriously-platformed wedge sandals Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai did in collaboration with LA boutique TenOverSix. In fact, according to the Vena Cava show notes, the entire collection was designed in Los Angeles, where both Buhai and Mayock are from. The designers cited "the 1980s design movement Memphis, which used bold geometric shapes, bright colors, and a health sense of humor to refute 'good taste' design," as inspiration, showing up in "colorblocking and geometric construction, mixed with a southern California ease and less rigid way of dressing." Hence the flowy skirts, loose halter dresses, and even a pair of overalls snuck in.

2011 Spring New York Fashion Week: Vena Cava

What you're about to experience is signature Vena Cava, with an extra exuberant flair.

What you're about to experience is signature Vena Cava, with an extra exuberant flair. Designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock — who are adorable in person — worked in their signature quirky prints and flowy fabrics, but also injected bold, feminine flair, with bouts of bright hues that are Spring perfect. One of the most notable updates to their wears? The longer hemlines — it seems the ladylike trend will carry on beyond Fall. But with Vena Cava, the lady also has a cool-chick bone. For accessories, the models wore turban-like headbands, stacked bangles, and chunky platforms. Close your eyes, transport yourself to Vena Cava-land, and imagine frolicking in these pieces — red and camel, funky overalls, ethnic touches, silky fabrics, asymmetrical hemlines — you can't help but feel alive!

Vena Cava is outrageously amazing, but sadly, so are its prices.
Pictures of Viva Vena 2010 Fall Collection

Vena Cava is outrageously amazing, but sadly, so are its prices. So you can imagine our excitement when the brand announced a cheaper line, dubbed Viva Vena. The collection just released, and designing duo Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock went above and beyond our fashion expectations. The line features Vena Cava's signature hand-drawn prints and neo-Dada photo collages made into organic jersey dresses, tees, and cute skirts. Did we mention each piece retails under $200? Get it before it's long gone . . .
