With both the British Fashion Council and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund hosting events in Los Angeles, California certainly had more than its fair share of this week's chic. But there were plenty of other fashionable moments elsewhere as well: Matthew Williamson's 15th anniversary party in London, the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M launch in New York, and Chanel's Little Black Jacket opening in Sydney. See who turned up to which event — and what they wore — right here, in our weekly best-of recap.
Premiere Style: Victoria Justice Wows in a Yellow Versace Dress
As the star of the new movie, Fun Size, we would expect nothing less than a dazzling dress from Victoria Justice, and the actress didn't disappoint working a stunning yellow Versace number for the LA premiere. She styled her single structured peplum mini with black suede pointed pumps and teardrop earrings, then sprinkled a dash of contrasting color via red lipstick and matching nail polish. Peplum was a huge trend this year, but we particularly like the unique structure of Victoria's sunny sheath. Work a yellow peplum dress with black suede pumps and red accents to nail Victoria's glam-girl look.

Alexa Chung's Monochrome Maroon Look: Leather Skirt and Turtleneck
Versace held a cocktail reception in NYC last night and among the fashionable stars to attend was Alexa Chung, who showed up in a head-to-toe maroon look. Monochrome outfits can seem hard to pull off, but as exemplified by Alexa, they can turn out to be totally chic when done right. The socialite tucked a maroon turtleneck into a maroon zip-front leather skirt and carried a matching circle bag. She then added a bit of contrasting color via black cutout flats and a black coat. If you dare to walk in Alexa's fashion-forward shoes, shop similar pieces below to get her latest look.

Versace's Party Guests (Obviously) Opt For Leather and Bustiers
When in Rome . . . that seemed to be the motto adopted by Donatella's party guests at her SoHo store opening last night. The celebrity party guests, a crowd that included Kanye and Lady Gaga, showed their support for Versace in a range of the label's high-impact wares. Even Alexa Chung, who doesn't exactly strike us as a high-drama Versace girl, embraced the night's theme, albeit tempered with her own charm, in a burgundy leather skirt by Versace's younger line, Versus. Meanwhile, the supermodel contingent, including Coco Rocha and Bar Refaeli, took a page right out of Donatella's book, as did Jennifer Hudson, who joined the leather-clad crew of models in a fit-and-flare skirt and knee-high boots. Donatella Versace Doesn't Mind If People Call Her Designs "Tacky"
Donatella Versace isn't concerned with critics who call her clothing tacky, so long as they're calling it something in the first place.
"First of all, any reaction is a good thing," said the designer in an interview with Susanna Lau of Style Bubble. "The people who struggle are those who have no reaction at all. They are too safe. Tacky — never mind. What is tacky? What is chic?"
And while critics didn't call Versace's Spring 2013 collection tacky or chic, they didn't give it negative reviews either. Tim Blanks of Style.com said the dresses "had the carefree sensuality of festival gear," and Cathy Horyn of The New York Times called Versace's theme of lightness "an interesting idea."
Emmys: Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu gave us a lot to get excited about on the Emmys red carpet tonight — she showed up in a gorgeous, slightly space-age silver sequined gown by Versace, which she paired with diamond stud earrings and a silver clutch. The dress boasted a structured, armor-inspired bodice and moved gorgeously as Lucy walked across the stage during the show, lending a smooth, liquid quality to her overall look. We're head over heels for Lucy's sleek Versace dress; what do you think?

Versace Spring 2013
Donatella Versace described her Spring 2013 collection as "subtle" — and hers is probably the only fashion house where metallic fringe laid over a gold minidress and belted at the waist qualifies as such.
br>
When you step back a bit, though, this collection is noticeably pared down compared to what we've seen from Versace over the past few seasons. The prints are the first clue to that: save for two garments that feature the house's iconic medusa image as a motif, many of the other fabrics are gentle splotches or stripes of one color imposed over another. There are also a few dresses bedecked with metal studs and some tied together corset-style across diagonal slashes in the material. A few dresses featured lace embellishments and insets, and loose-cut, simple black jackets (yes, jackets) were certainly very subtle. But in this collection, they were among the standout pieces.
Versace Spring 2013
Donatella Versace is known for her sexy, body-con styles, and her Spring '13 showing was just that, but perhaps with a more subtle touch than what we're used to seeing from the designer. The show opened with easy lace-appliqued minidresses paired with low-slung studded belts. The same technique was seen on a range of crop tops and hot shorts worn with sleek blazers and leather jackets. The most wearable, everyday pieces came from an assortment of skinny striped, dip-dyed, and lace-adorned pants paired with billowy crushed silk tops, emoting a decidedly '70s bohemian vibe. Catering to the red carpet, a brigade of color — orange, teal, pink — entered the runway, highlighting seductive high-slit gowns (Jennifer Lopez, anyone?) and short embellished minidresses made for leg-baring starlets like Lea Michele and Selena Gomez.
- Trends: '70s, billowy sleeves, leather, lace.
- Colors: Black gold, orange, teal, blue, pink.
- Key Piece: We loved the lace-embellished pants.
- Accessories: Sandal boots, strappy metallic sandals, statement sunglasses, studded belts, exotic crossbody bags, leather clutches.
- Who Should Wear It: We can picture the sexy high-slit gowns on red-carpet stunners like Jennifer Lopez and Lea Michele, along with front-row attendees Milla Jovovich and Jessica Stam.

Fall 2012 ad campaigns have arrived, and with them comes a stunning array of visuals from some of our favorite fashion houses. Among the standouts: a whimsical Where the Wild Things Are-themed Mulberry shoot featuring Lindsey Wixson; a bewitching segment by Marc Jacobs featuring Magda Laguinge, Marie Piovesan, Marte Mei Van Haaster, Ros Georgiou, and Tati Cotliar in ghastly makeup; and a futuristic spread from Givenchy featuring Saskia de Brauw and styled by Carine Roitfeld. Also in the mix and of note: Chloe Sevigny's reprised role as the face of Miu Miu. All those — plus more to come as they arrive — in the slideshow.
