There was no shortage of glitz at Atelier Versace's Fall 2012 show on Monday, the first full-on runway outing for the couture label in nearly a decade. In fact, Donatella seemed intent on summoning the flamboyant spirit of the label's founder, Gianni. The show was held in the storied pool room of the Ritz Paris — the same place Gianni used to hold his show — with the pool covered over and three sleek glass panels providing an electric-hued backdrop.

The theme, the show notes stated, was "deconstruction and reconstruction in all its various forms." This manifested itself in the perforated-leather jackets, plasticized-strip minidresses, and pieced-and-stitched gowns — with slits up to there — that came down the runway glittering with crystal beads and in pastel metallics. Silhouettes, too, played with the idea of juxtaposition and revision, in skin-revealing layers and curve-enhancing forms: the skirts of gowns billowed out from second-skin corsets, and sharp-flared jackets nipped in at the waist with tough leather belts.

With front row attendees like Jessica Alba, Elizabeth Banks, and Lea Michele, it's safe to say the line to nab a piece of Donatella Versace's Fall '12 Couture collection for the next red carpet appearance will be a lengthy affair. The show — held at the prestigious Ritz Paris where her brother Gianni Versace showed his couture shows for many years before his death — turned up the volume on what the Italian fashion house does best: jaw-dropping minidresses and gowns. The collection was filled with Versace's signature glamour and glitz as a rainbow of pastel hued looks made their way down the runway. If the sheer corset dresses and scarf print minis weren't enough, Donatella's penchant for over-the-top decadence was proven in her flourish of studded wide belts, strappy high heel pumps, statement cocktail rings. Look closely and you can see all intricate fabric techniques she utilized like weaving patent leather together into a leather jacket, creating delicate sheer cutouts, and our favorite, a glittery mesh detail we're dying to get our hands on. More details from the collection below, then check out the complete collection.
Donatella Versace called her Resort 2013 collection "rockmantic," and with all the studded leather pieces and floral prints it contains, it's an appropriate distinction. The offering was partially influenced by the Memphis design movement of the 1980s, which explains why many pieces were brightly colored — and why the print featured on jackets, pants, and dresses juxtaposed images of guitars with flowers and shoes. As is her custom, Versace nodded to her roots by forming the rose gold snaps on a cotton jacket into the shape of the house's Medusa logo.

Summer officially arrives in less than a week but the Versace team is already thinking about next season. The brand just released its Fall/Winter 2012 campaign and although the clothes are technically for cooler weather, we wouldn't mind wearing them now. The über sexy Italian label isn't really big on covering up, so most of the pieces would probably work for a breezy May or June night. But since nothing hits stores for at least two or three months, we're happy to obsess over the pictures first.
The black and white images feature model Elza Luijendijk with a severe blonde bob, posing on chain-covered cement bricks with big moody photographs of the ocean in the background. The styling was clearly influenced by head designer Donatella; we could see her wearing every single look on the red carpet—especially that black mini dress with the knee-high boots.
