Versace Fall 2012

The Versace Fall 2012 collection was all about the Rooney Mara goth chick-meets-Joan of Arc goddess hero, right down to the bluntly cut bangs and barely-there eyebrows.

The Versace Fall 2012 collection was all about the Rooney Mara goth chick-meets-Joan of Arc goddess hero, right down to the bluntly cut bangs and barely-there eyebrows. But this no-nonsense kind of girl certainly knows how to dress up. The dark palette and edgy shapes were inspired by brother Gianni's final collection, "an era," Donatella said she finally had "the courage to go back to." The result? Strong dress silhouettes — some in tough leather, some in chain-mesh satin, for example — were highlighted by Byzantine cross embroidery, a slick metallic sheen, and corseted bodices that closely resembled metal armor. But not to fear, the signature Versace hourglass figure remained intact, thanks to artful peplum details and silver accents that strategically emphasized the waistline. To illustrate our point, just look to one jaw-dropping chain-linked silver disc gown for bombshell confirmation. We think this standout number proves a worthy candidate for rush delivery to the Oscars red carpet. To polish off the Fall '12 lineup with a saucy minx undertone, Donatella sent models out wearing fishnet mesh boots, fishnet gloves, and holding cross-embroidered clutches. See below for more Versace details.

  • Trends: Byzantine cross embroidery, chain mesh detail, ultra-shiny finishes, and corseted bodices.
  • Colors: Black, metallic silver, neon yellow, orange, and pops of red.
  • Key Piece: The full-on chain mail and chain mesh-infused gowns screamed "red carpet."
  • Accessories: Cross-embroidered clutches, fishnet boots, and fishnet gloves.
  • Who Would Wear It: Ladies who can own a strong, edgy shape, like Rooney Mara, Kate Beckinsale, and Diane Kruger.

Equal parts Red Riding Hood and religious-chic (??!), her outfit has left us scratching our heads about what statement Minaj is making. Now we've got to know, what do you think?

Grammy Awards: Lady Gaga Dons a Sheer Gown and Metallic Bustier, Accessorizes With a Gold Scepter

She didn't walk the red carpet, but that didn't stop Lady Gaga from making a statement inside the show.

She didn't walk the red carpet, but that didn't stop Lady Gaga from making a statement inside the show. The singer's revealing custom Versace sheer gown and tough metallic bustier are on par for her typical over-the-top aesthetic, especially when you add in the show-quality accessories — including a sheer netted mask and a gold scepter in hand. One observant person on Twitter compared her look to Jafar from Aladdin. How do you rate Gaga's Grammy look?

Cameron Diaz has been strutting the sidewalks of Paris for Fashion Week, and we're certain that her all-black fringed Versace number turned more than a few heads. Want to have the same effect in your city, but can't afford Donatella's sexy creations? Just find a black fringed or macrame top, tuck it into a high-waisted miniskirt, and cinch it with a studded belt to mimic Cameron's studs. Then finish off the look with a pair of chunky black ankle boots, a collarless jacket, and a black clutch. If it's cold where you live, add black opaque tights to keep warm. Voila — you'll make heads spin even miles outside Europe's fashion capital.

Red Carpet to Real Life: Diana Kruger Dons Black and White Versace

While the Versace Resort 2012 frock Diane Kruger wore to Paris Fashion Week is a standout, it's far better suited for the front row than it is for the sidewalk.

While the Versace Resort 2012 frock Diane Kruger wore to Paris Fashion Week is a standout, it's far better suited for the front row than it is for the sidewalk. Plus, it's not easy to pull off such a funky print in your day-to-day. But in small doses — like with the black and white abstract tee we chose — the black and white print trend is one everyone can pull off. Just tuck the front into a pair of skinny black jeans, throw on a white belt for added pizazz, and finish the look off with black patent pumps. Or opt for flats or boots if you're just grabbing a casual bite.

"You know I’m a sucker for anything glittery," commented Cameron Diaz, who — along with Diane Kruger, Abbie Cornish, and Anna Dello Russo — attended the show.
