We're loving cold-weather vests at the moment. They provide just the right amount of warmth and are a stylish alternative to a bulky jacket. Today, Fashion Reporter Allison McNamara and Entertainment Reporter Matthew Rodrigues are sharing a few of our favorite vests that we want to get our hands on — stat. Take a look at our top five, then let us know which one you like best! On Allison McNamara: A.L.C. sweater, Urban Outfitters skirt.
We're tucking away our furry toppers and trading them in for vests of a lighter kind. Looking to the cool-girl iterations we saw on the Spring runways at Phillip Lim and Rag & Bone, we're newly inspired to layer up with slick leather vests and sleeveless blazers. Just the way a Winter jacket ties together the whole look with polish, we like to think of their Spring counterparts the same way. Sure, you don't need a vest to keep out the chill, but each of these covetable options is like the icing on our already-perfectly-styled cake — it only makes the whole thing sweeter. To our point, we've rounded up 10 of our absolute favorite vests; just click through to shop your perfect style.
A cozy vest is one of our favorite Winter styling essentials, and we're sure you can see why. Fall weather can be tricky — it's not too cold or too hot. Not to fret, that just means Fall is the perfect time to wear a vest. The extra layer of protection that a vest provides keeps you warm without making you feel like you're sweltering in a sauna. Whether you're a runner, hiker, or just need something to throw on after yoga class, we've got a vest for you!

I'm inspired after seeing Fab's picks for chic Winter vests. Unfortunately, a shearling or faux fur piece isn't going to work on all of the long Winter hikes I have scheduled for the New Year. I'll need something that keeps me warm, is great for layering, but is also extremely durable. I'm also looking for a vest that has enough pockets to store essentials and is made of weatherproof materials. Here's what I'm spying (clockwise from top left): Columbia Melange Maven Down Vest ($69), Marmot Venus Vest ($130), Nike Allure Vest ($130), Lightweight Puffer Vest ($40), Isis Whisper Hoodie Vest ($100), Outdoor Research Aria Down Vest ($100), The North Face Oh Snap Vest ($180). Which one do you like?
Vests continue to serve as favorite layering tools. And it's time to get furry. Leather, denim, and studded vests are too weak right now — it's high time fashion meets function. I recently scored a cheap blond fur vest from American Eagle Outfitters, it even has a cute plaid lining. I've pretty much been throwing it over everything, and I'm trying to find a chichi enough event to wear it with a long gown a la Elizabeth Hurley. But Nicole Richie models it for everyday, if you can stop staring at her mammoth white Balenciaga and focus on her foxy furry.
Menswear vests are still in, but now is the ideal time to cozy up to a cable-knit sweater vest. It whispers Fall, and keeps you warm enough without suffocating. You can wear it over a tank to show off your arms or a long-sleeve tee when it gets super chilly. This Brochu Walker Cable Wrap Sweater Vest ($385) is blissful and beautiful, but I'm not paying that much for a vest. Movin' on . . .

The transitioning weather has me in a bit of a funk. See, one minute it's hot, and the next minute, it's nippy. This Wet Seal Faux Leather Studded Vest ($15, originally $23) would have came in handy the other day when sporadic gusts blew up my Summer dress. It's not that expensive to start with, but there's nothing wrong with saving a little dough. Who can resist those rad little studs?
