Tom Ford To Cover, Guest Edit Vogue Paris's December 2010/January 2011 Holiday Issue

>> Vogue got the exclusive on the first photos of Tom Ford's womenswear collection in its December 2010 issue, but Vogue Paris is putting Ford on its December 2010/January 2011 cover. Ford is the magazine's holiday issue guest editor this year — in past years, it's been Sofia Coppola or John Galliano — and it was rumored a couple of months ago that some of the photos Terry Richardson took at Ford's womenswear debut were an exclusive for the issue. This is not the first time Ford has appeared on the cover of an issue he's guest edited — he was flanked by Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson on Vanity Fair's March 2006 cover — and according to Roitfeld, this time, too, Ford will not be solo on the cover. Carine Roitfeld Had an Ulterior Motive for Attending the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

>> Carine Roitfeld, Inez van Lamsweerde, and Vinoodh Matadin were all in attendance for Wednesday's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show taping, and though it's apparently Roitfeld's favorite show (she attends almost every year), all three apparently had ulterior motives for their appearances — they were scoping out the cast for a Vogue Paris editorial.

The Imagist reports: "[Roitfeld didn't just want] a dose of good old American spectacle. Let's just say there's a veeeery sexy Inez and Vinoodh edit abrewing for Vogue Paris. Extra points to the gossip gurl who can suss out who the cast for that booking will be. There's said to be at least 3 angels (past n present) in the mix." And today, jewelry designer Rodrigo Otazu Tweeted: "Busy morning with French Vogue shoot [sic] today with top models Karolina Kurkova, Lily Donaldson, Adriana Lima and Izabel Goulart." The cast fits the description: Kurkova, Lima, and Goulart are three Victoria's Secret Angels past and present.

How to get into the Halloween cheer without spending needlessly?

How to get into the Halloween cheer without spending needlessly? Instead of donning an out-and-out costume this year, why not pull double duty by wearing everyday pieces in a not-so-everyday manner. With Carine Roitfeld as our inspiration — spotted in leopard prints, sheer and not-so-sheer, earlier this month at Vogue Paris's 90th Anniversary Masquerade Bash — we put together a catty Halloween ensemble, which can be easily deconstructed for later wear. Also, opt out of buying a mask and treat yourself to a little cat-eye eyeliner instead!

Sheer Gowns and Masks Aplenty at Vogue Paris's 90th Anniversary Ball

>> Carine Roitfeld's masquerade ball last night, celebrating 90 years of Vogue Paris and loosely Eyes Wide Shut-themed, meant lots of sheer gowns, and lots of show attendees preoccupied with finding a mask yesterday. Anna Dello Russo, inspired by Lady Gaga, paired a Gareth Pugh headpiece with her custom Emilio Pucci gown. Jean Paul Gaultier designed a metal mask for himself adorned with long feathers: "Yes, they're giant eyelashes, acting like hair -- since I'm missing some as you can see — so instead I've gone for this black plume."

Tyra Banks made do with cut up fishnets, Sasha Pivovarova got her mask "from a sex shop," and Lily Donaldson wore a red tulle veil to match her Christian Dior gown: “I made it myself. I went all the way up to the fabric district in Montmartre today.” Stephen Jones made Karlie Kloss's star spangled mask to go with her Christian Dior gown, and Riccardo Tisci did Mariacarla Boscono's over the top feathered hat, while he looked to Philip Treacy to custom make his mask.

While there was plenty of mask ogling, Carine Roitfeld was more preoccupied with other thoughts. “Oh my goodness, even the models are eating, it’s amazing!” she laughed, as Lily Donaldson took a leaf from a chocolate cabbage.

Carine Roitfeld Finds It "More and More Difficult" To Keep an "Un-Politically Correct" Attitude About Vogue Paris

Roitfeld said the shoot was inspired by the 1973 movie "La Grande Bouffe," about a group of men who retire to a villa to eat themselves to death, and that she thinks it's the job of fashion magazines to continue to push boundaries and provoke, even in the face of attacks on their judgment: "In 90 years, we haven’t changed the mood of the magazine. It’s still very audacious. It’s still about beauty. It’s still about excess. It’s still very avant-garde . . . We try to be sophisticated, while a little on the edge all the time."

She continues: "What I can see is that now, the censoring is bigger than it was 20, 30, or 40 years ago. I think we have less freedom. Today some pictures [from past issues of Vogue Paris] would not even be publishable. It’s not just about the nudity, but when you talk about things politically, the military, kids, it would all be politically incorrect and not publishable today. We have to fight to keep this un-politically correct attitude of French Vogue, but it’s more and more difficult to be able do that. You cannot smoke, you cannot show arms, you cannot show little girls, because everyone now is very anxious not to have problems with the law. Everything we do now is like walking in high heels on the ice, but we keep trying to do it."

On a more personal note, Roitfeld did a video with Hilary Alexander in which she talks about designing her silk shirt with Charvet and exclaims, "F*ck yoga, it makes me crazy!"

— As Paris Fashion Week kicks off, the New York Times caught up with Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld about the magazine's upcoming 90th-anniversary issue. The new issue features Crystal Renn stuffing her face with food, and previous spreads, such as one with white models wearing blackface and another giving the finger to anti-fur advocates, have caused controversy.
