Everything You Need to Know About Anna Wintour's Brand-New Job

Whatever doubts there may have been about Anna Wintour leaving Vogue were assuaged Tuesday night when Condé Nast revealed that it had named Wintour the company's artistic director.

Whatever doubts there may have been about Anna Wintour leaving Vogue were assuaged Tuesday night when Condé Nast revealed that it had named Wintour the company's artistic director.

What the New Job Means:
Wintour will still be the editor in chief of Vogue and editorial director of Teen Vogue, but she'll also take on some of the responsibilities of Si Newhouse, Jr., the chairman and CEO of Condé Nast. According to The New York Times, that will include advising editors on the company's other magazines, expanding those brands onto new platforms, finding new talent, and reinforcing aesthetics.

Wait, Where's Si Going?
Newhouse, 85, has reportedly been recusing himself of some of his duties since last year, and recently moved from Condé Nast's 11th floor executive suite to an office on the sixth floor.

How Wintour Sees the Role:
She told the Times it's "almost like being a one-person consulting firm . . . I advise all sorts of people in the outside world, and really, I see this as an extension of what I am doing, but on a broader scale." Later, she added, "It isn't about a machine or an iPhone or an iPad. It's about people."

Condé's Reason For Creating the Role:
In a statement, the company said creation of the new role came at "the ideal time to leverage Anna's extraordinary vision and leadership to amplify and elevate the profile of Condé Nast US both domestically and abroad. Anna is an icon in the worlds of fashion, business and the arts, she has the foresight and wisdom to influence the major trends of our society and is respected globally as an accomplished businesswoman."

Beyoncé Knowles Talks Having More Babies in Vogue

Beyoncé Knowles wears Givenchy to cover the upcoming Power Issue of Vogue magazine, which will be out on newsstands in the US on Feb.

Beyoncé Knowles wears Givenchy to cover the upcoming Power Issue of Vogue magazine, which will be out on newsstands in the US on Feb. 19 and is available now digitally. The March 2013 edition marks the second time Beyoncé's fronted the publication. Inside, she spoke about giving birth to her daughter, Blue Carter, in January 2012, and her and husband Jay-Z's hopes for Blue's normal childhood. Beyoncé also spoke about expanding her family, and getting back to work following Blue's arrival. Here are highlights from Beyoncé Knowles in Vogue:

  • On becoming a mom: "I felt very maternal around eight months. And I thought I couldn't become any more until I saw the baby. . . . But it happened during my labor because I had a very strong connection with my child. I felt like when I was having contractions, I envisioned my child pushing through a very heavy door. And I imagined this tiny infant doing all the work, so I couldn't think about my own pain. . . . We were talking. I know it sounds crazy, but I felt a communication. . . . My family and my closest people were there when I gave birth. Everything that scared me just was not present in that room. So for me to really let go and really appreciate every contraction . . . it was the best day of my life."
  • On having more kids: "When I was younger, there were moments where I said, 'I'm not going to have children.' And then moments when I wanted four. And now I definitely want another, but I don't know when."
  • On giving Blue a normal childhood: "At some point it's very important to me that my daughter is able to experience life and run through the sprinklers and have slumber parties and trust and live and do all the things that any child should be able to do. . . . School visits and lemonade stands and all that stuff. It's very important for me."

She Did It For Vogue: Karlie Kloss Explains Her Short New Haircut

When Karlie Kloss turned up backstage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last month with a much shorter haircut, she told us that she did it for "a job."

When Karlie Kloss turned up backstage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last month with a much shorter haircut, she told us that she did it for "a job."

This week, Vogue published a story about a newly trendy haircut known simply as the chop, which in recent months has been adopted by everyone from Arizona Muse to Olivier Theyskens. Kloss's cut was administered by the mononymous New York stylist Garren in Patrick Demarchelier's photo studio, and the magazine chronicled the model's transformation from long-haired and lovely to short-haired and almost gamine.

"I love it. I can't stop touching it . . . it makes me feel more daring," Kloss said afterward, adding that having shorter locks "actually takes the focus off your hair and puts the focus on you. I'm starting to realize that it's all about confidence."

The only drawback to the new 'do? "It's winter, and I happen to have this very long neck," Kloss noted. "I may need to invest in some really warm scarves."
