>> Model Talk: Crystal Renn to Walk Chanel Resort Show Tomorrow; Ymre Stiekema Returns to Modeling Full-Time —We got a preview of Karl Lagerfeld's new short film earlier today, but one castmember who wasn't revealed until tonight's screening in Saint Tropez, where the Chanel Resort 2011 show takes place tomorrow: Georgia May Jagger as Brigitte Bardot. Will she walk in the show? She's definitely in Saint Tropez taking part in the festivities, as is Crystal Renn, who's reportedly confirmed to walk. And a bit more model news, while we're at it: Prada's former campaign exclusive Ymre Stiekema is reportedly back from her modeling break starting June 10, after finishing her studies this Summer. Jason Wu Expanding Full-Steam Ahead for Spring 2010; Cathy Horyn Unsure About All the Buzz
>> In January, Jason Wu went from buzzy among the fashion community to internationally known, thanks to one Michelle Obama, and his Spring 2010 reflects the sudden change in pace: he's trying to go a little sexier, and little more modern to have an all-around broader ready-to-wear reach. He added knitwear, outwear, and daywear, launched four styles of sunglasses, and hopes someday soon to get into handbags and accessories.
Ymre Stiekema made her New York Fashion Week debut at the show, and Yulia Kharlaponova slipped and fell on recently-Windexed mirrored runway, but that wasn't the only slip-up in the collection, according to Cathy Horyn, who wrote in her review:
"Have you ever become completely irritated by a box of chocolate? You know the kind: concept chocolate, artfully arranged in a just-so box, flavors exotic and trying. I’m afraid that was my overall reaction to Jason Wu’s collection on Friday at the St. Regis Hotel . . . He should try a little less hard is the answer. Not everything in life is a spotless decorator interior or a magazine spread. He should loosen up a bit. And why the uniformly short hemlines, six inches above the knee? That in itself is the sign of a fairly conformist outlook."
Tasha Tilberg, Ymre Stiekema Go '60s Avedon for Show Package; Irina Lazareanu To Make Runway Return?
>> Spring 2010 show packages with New York Fashion Week just over a week away: Supreme went goth with the help of photographer Hanna Liden, Major Model Management enlisted the help of student artist Rachel Chiu to illustrate their roster, and Irina Lazareanu looks poised to make a runway return — her card is in the mix at Marilyn. But thus far, the most eye-catching rests with One Management — they had icons like Ann Catherine Lacroix, Tasha Tilberg, and Colette Pechekhonova, plus Prada favorite Ymre Stiekema, all done up '60s Richard Avedon-style, complete with helmet from his 1965 Harper's Bazaar cover. Fab Ad: Prada, Fall '09
When it comes to ads, we've almost seen it all: beaches, desert sand, wheat fields, sidewalks — you get the picture. But Miuccia Prada has managed to give us something we haven't yet seen for Prada's Fall campaign: models sitting in a puddle of oil. Juxtapositions are common in fashion and this is one of the slickest yet. Here we have delicate models Kendra Spears, Julia Hafstrom, Prada favorite Ymre Stiekema, and Anna de Rijk, in equally delicate gowns, dipping their feet in something not so delicate. Of course, their handy rubber Prada boots make this possible. Such moodiness wouldn't fly for Spring, but for Fall, it's perfect. What do you think — are you as captivated as I am?
>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —The first photo from Prada's Fall 2009 campaign has leaked, and instead of horses involved as previously reported, the setting is four girls — Prada favorite Ymre Stiekema, Katlin Aas, Julia Hafstrom, and Kendra Spears, who is said to be the main focus — in a boat, surrounded by water; this particular image is supposedly one of the "most interesting," according to someone who claims to have seen the full set by Steven Meisel. The Miu Miu Fall 2009 campaign, which has yet to appear, will reportedly have a strong androgynous theme. [TFS, TFS]
>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —While a horse of Steven Klein's caused Madonna injury over the weekend, another Steven — Steven Meisel — worked with a horse last week for one setting of the "marathon" four day Prada Fall 2009 campaign shoot at Pier 59 Studios in New York. No confirmation on which models were involved, but a number of unconfirmed sources are indicating four girls — Kendra Spears, Anna De Rijk, Katlin Aas, and Miuccia Prada's current favorite, Ymre Stiekema. Speculating on Fall 2009 Campaign Season
>> For Spring 2009 more than ever, brands stuck with campaign models who guarantee a sell — supermodels like Gisele Bundchen and Kate Moss for Versace or Claudia Schiffer for Yves Saint Laurent, Daria Werbowy for Roberto Cavalli — or the classic blonde hair-blue eye combination that Toni Garrn and Anna Maria Jagodzinska's campaign sweeps represented. Also of note for the season, Prada and Balenciaga's decisions to go with big groups of models — eight and ten, respectively.
With Fall 2009 campaign season under way, it sounds like at least a couple of brands have decided to break from that latter part of last season's formula — Wayne Sterling of The Imagist reports:
"It is too early to say and too tenuous to reveal who's holding/confirming what these days but rest assured it is the striking and the extreme that seem to be filtering into the next phase. Among the buzz I picked up by some art directors is a disenchantment with the 'multiples' ideal, that concept of an army of models rocking as many of the looks from the show as possible while waving as many possible it-bags as can be crammed into a double page. Two VERY big brands have already gone 'Only Girl.'"
The most likely candidate from that description of packing the models in seems to be Prada — so does that mean Prada is one of those already-decided brands, and Miuccia's current favorite exclusive Ymre Stiekema is going to finally get a main season campaign under her belt?
Full Video — Carine Roitfeld on CNN: Revealed
>> We've gotten plenty of snippets from the CNN: Revealed profile on Carine Roitfeld already — including her stance on the Vogue replacement rumors — but now, the full show is out on video. Besides discussing the April 2009 cover of Vogue Paris, we get a peek at an upcoming Patrick Demarchelier editorial with Ymre Stiekema in Spring 2009 couture holding animals at an agricultural show ("I didn't know how hard it would be to shoot in this place"), plus a snippet of an interaction between Carine and Anna Wintour, in which Anna cryptically asks, "Did you get my letter? Do you understand?" Without further ado . . .
Miuccia Prada Brings Out the Fight for Fall 2009
>> What did Miuccia Prada have in mind for this sober season? Another look at her favorite urban warrior. After the audience crowded onto double-assigned bleacher-style seating, Prada sent out leather gladiator dresses, studded shoes with Trojan helmet-like fringed comb on the back, thigh-high loose fisherman boots held up by garters, and more fur than you could ever want. Plus, according to Suzy Menkes, "the best coats and suits of this Milan season" — even though Miuccia says she hasn't worn a suit herself in six years. Ymre Stiekema finally showed up this season — so it looks like Prada kept her exclusive — but there doesn't look to be any models of color, not even Jourdan Dunn. For the finale, instead of the regular tour, all the models crowded into a group in the center of the boxing ring-type arena setting.
