>> Video: More Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Casting Hints —The taping of Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is less than a week away, fittings are well under way — Alessandra Ambrosio has hers today — and twenty models, including the Angels walking, have now been confirmed for the show. According to John Pfeiffer, the show's casting director, there will be about 30 to 35 total models; in the casting video below, Cintia Dicker, Eniko Milhalik, Arlenis Sosa Pena, Bruno Tenorio, Yulia Kharlapanova, and Emina Cunmulaj all make appearances — but who will fill out the rest of the cast? >> The 96-page September issue insert The Imagist teased back in June turned out to be for V: Paul Rowland, founder of Women and Supreme agencies, photographed 19 of his models in studio back in April with help from stylist Nicholas Grasa.  His inspirations were "Joel-Peter Witkin, paganism, mysticism, vampires, witches — all the things I love," and V has a video of the shoot in action, which required Hannelore Knuts to have raw meat draped over her chest and the rope holding it together lit on fire on both ends. The supplement will be available with V61 in select cities. 

Maybe this whole project is the start of a move into a new arena for Rowland?  As V puts it: "Rowland, whose lavish and intricate agency show packages are the talk of the industry each season, has a creative verve that extends beyond model agency moving and shaking, and into photography and fine art. After this outing, however, he might need his own magazine as well."

>> It's all about black at Yves Saint Laurent — and not just on the runway.  Owner PPR just announced that after ten years of losses, the brand finally broke even in 2008.  Appropriately enough, Stefano Pilati sent out a Fall 2009 collection that was — you guessed it — mostly black, quilted, pinstriped, and in leather; apparently Pilati worked with automakers to cultivate some pieces in materials usually used in high-end cars.  Spring 2009 face Claudia Schiffer was in front row, and just as suspected, Caroline Trentini finally appeared as an exclusive, closing the show.  Pilati, who notably is one of only two designers in the industry who works without a stylist — the other being Giorgio Armani — riffed on YSL's heritage power-dressing, and the message was powerful; maybe a little too powerful for Yulia Kharlapanova, who had to take her shoes off.*image: source, source

The biggest subject of buzz around Coutorture's corner of the fashion blogosphere today was just how amazing and/or awful the shoes were at Prada's Spring 2009 show with bloggers researching every possible angle of the now infamous footwear.

Shoewawa was first on the scene, Shoeblog had an impressive play by play of the offending/inspiring footwear and noted the shoe cover connection, Hip Candy pointed us to an ankle twisting photo that made is grimace, Fassonaburu even had a video of Yulia Kharlapanova falling, and Fashion Copius rounds up quotes and backstage anecdotes on the show and its already infamous shoes.

And in case you want to read about something else besides Prada, Fashion Fillers is on the hunt for the perfect pair of boots. A journey we wish her luck on as it took us a decade and $400 to get ours (and that was a 50% discount). Denimology talks about My Lovely Jean's new retailer TopShop. >> A LITTLE TURN ON THE CATWALK —By now, it's well established that the Spring 2009 Prada shoes created runway carnage yesterday — Yulia Kharlapanova flat-out fell, Jessica Stam stumbled, Katie Fogarty fell and then carried her shoes for the rest of the runway, one model — who looks to be Sigrid Agren — started out in the finale, then turned and went backstage — defeated.  It's all being blamed on the slippery socks the girls had to wear with their shoes, but at least the models weren't the only ones in pain at Prada — apparently the audience had to sit on wooden blocks, providing some awkward undergarment-baring situations.

>> Those Spring 2009 Prada shoes are treacherous. This morning, Russian newcomer Yulia Kharlapanova opened at Jil Sander — and was heralded as "Milan's first star."  But just as fast as doors can open, they can also close; Later on in the day, Yulia stumbled and fell at Prada.  Ouch — of all runways, Prada is not one you want to fall on — it is perhaps the most singularly watched for casting choices and new modelling stars in the making.  A little condolence, Yulia: at least Jessica Stam stumbled, too.

>> If Frida Giannini is aiming for her Gucci customer to be one Rachel Zoe, nothing says it stronger than the flowy printed maxi dresses and one-shouldered bohemian blouses that she sent out as Gucci's Resort 2009 collection.  Shown in Rome to celebrate the brand's 70th anniversary and a re-opening flagship, the collection will surely please those who hanker for a Hermes scarf-like minidress or a pair of fringed espadrille wedges.  Guests who were left waiting for their rides to the show venue, however, were less impressed, remarking that if Tom Ford were still at Gucci, the cars wouldn't have been late, and the drivers would have been handsome and topless .
