>> "I think in general with collection and with Z Spoke, we're moving into a more streamlined identity of my original language," said Zac Posen, when describing his new outlook on designing. And while we'll have to wait to see exactly how that translates for Posen's signature collection at Paris Fashion Week, the lower-priced Z Spoke Fall 2011 collection lookbook — featuring "Zac-ettes" Tao Okamoto, Anna Cleveland, Crystal Renn, Sessilee Lopez, and Coco Rocha — is a definite departure from the wild "fashion-tainment" Z Spoke collection that debuted last September. Think edgy, yet wearable pieces like tailored ponchos, wide-leg trousers, and a heavy helping of dresses.

Crystal Renn Makes New York Fashion Week Appearance at Z Spoke
>> Crystal Renn has been embraced by Paris designers — Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier both picked her for their recent campaigns — so it was only a matter of time before she and her curves were welcomed stateside once again. The designer who takes the honor? Zac Posen, who sent Renn down the Z Spoke runway, marking her first appearance of the week. “I’m freaking out," she told People. "Zac is one of the ones you want. Zac, Calvin and Marc are the big three. I booked one of my three.”
Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week: Z Spoke
For Zac Posen's Spring '11 Z Spoke debut, we had high hopes — and this is a collection that delivers all the goods we could ask for. It's funky, fun, fresh, signature Posen doing what he does best: eclectic colors, prints, and dresses cut with fit and flair. We love the unexpected pairings, juxtaposed lacy bra tops layered over casual separates; flirtatious, corseted, cutout day dresses, suits; even Crystal Renn in ruffled bloomers. It's all a little retro-whimsical, then, he pulls out a showstopper and totally surprises: a sleek, black, cutout maxi that delivers something a little futuristic, mega chic. It's hard to choose a favorite, we're so into it all — ultra-vibrant, deliciously girlie, subtle edge.

Zac Posen Keeps Z Spoke in New York For Resort and Beyond

Zac Posen hasn't entirely ditched his hometown of New York. Although the designer is choosing to present his main collection in Paris this October (where "they understand the clothes"), Posen is keeping his sportier, secondary line, Z Spoke, in New York come fashion week. He recently showed what is only the second collection for Z Spoke, resort 2011. Staying true to his roots, Posen did best with flirty cocktail-inspired day dresses (a floral look with a bra top and full skirt especially stood out) but may have stretched a bit outside of his comfort zone with a few of the more casual, loungewear inspired looks. See the complete Z Spoke resort collection in the gallery below.

Behind the Seams: Z SPOKE By Zac Posen Launch Party at Saks NYC
If you need further proof that Zac Posen's diffusion line exists, the launch party happened last night at Saks in NYC. Actress Rose Byrne, models Tiiu Kiuk and Alexandra Richards, and editors, congregated to check out Zac's latest endeavor. Of the 60-piece lower priced collection, I spy statement skirts, cool cardis, and fine knits — all with a slight preppy vibe. See what went down while Zac was receiving kisses from his models!
Zac Posen's Lower-Priced Line Back in Action!
Last we spoke about Zac Posen's lower-priced diffusion line, it was on hold due to the weak economy. No fear — it's back. Z Spoke is set to hit Saks Fifth Avenue exclusively in the Spring. The 60-piece range focuses on sportswear via knits, blazers, pleated khaki shorts, and shirts. The best part? The starting price point is $78.
"Zac has always wanted to do a line that would be Zac Posen, but maybe talk to a different girl,” said Ron Frasch, Saks's president and chief merchandising officer. No doubt it will speak to a different customer than his RTW line — one who is just as fabulous but budget-conscious.
Zac Posen Ditches Hollywood for Urban Hipsters with New Saks Collection
Zac Posen is launching a lower-priced bridge collection exclusively with Saks Fifth Avenue next spring. According to Posen, the line—called Z Spoke—has an "urban hipster quality." He added that he could see the collection on Lower East Side girls.
That's a long way from Posen's designer collection, which is heavy on dramatic party clothes and over-the-top evening dresses. Posen says it's not a change of design philosophy as much as an answer to retailers' demand for more American sportswear—meaning he needs to sell some clothes.
Z Spoke will retail from $78 (for a t-shirt) to $675 (for a knit dress) and launch in 17 Saks stores on the same floor as Tory Burch and Elie Tahari.
“To me, it’s more appropriate to build a whole brand and collection around this price point," said Posen. "Chic sportswear should be at this price point. Designer dresses and cocktail pieces should be at a more expensive price point.” Zac Posen's designer collection retails for $900 to upwards of $12,000.
