NYFW Inspired Style: Layers With a Pop

Stylish ladies are making their way through the New York Fashion Week tents this week, and no matter what they're wearing, they all have one thing in common: staying warm.

Stylish ladies are making their way through the New York Fashion Week tents this week, and no matter what they're wearing, they all have one thing in common: staying warm. This gal looks supercozy with her piled-on charcoal-gray blazer and wool coat ($99), and still manages to deliver the perfect pop of color with an emerald green pleated skirt ($360). Add black tights, riding boots ($138), and a structured handbag, and you've got it made. Shop similar pieces by clicking the items above.

Celeb Style: Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba showed up to the American Music Awards looking perfectly polished in a black asymmetrical dress by Cushnie et Ochs. I love that she went with a longer hemline — it brought the look to a totally chic new level. Copy her outfit for your upcoming holiday party by starting with a sculptural cocktail dress ($110), then adding a sexy pair of ankle-strap heels ($90). Go glam via a statement-making gold choker ($115) and a couple of chunky cuff bracelets. Click the items above to shop a similar style.

The Look For Less: Stella McCartney's Tailored Masculinity

Two thoughts came to mind when I received Stella McCartney's newsletter highlighting this tailored, masculine Fall look: one, I want it all, and two, I can't afford it all.

Two thoughts came to mind when I received Stella McCartney's newsletter highlighting this tailored, masculine Fall look: one, I want it all, and two, I can't afford it all. But Fab does not fret, she gets the look for less! And it's an easy look to master — all you need is a long trench coat ($80, originally $88), cuffed baggy jeans, a gray tee, and tan booties ($43). Classic, clean, cool. Get the look by clicking on the items above.

Trend Alert: Pleats That Play the Accordion

If you've ever wanted to experiment with pretty pleats, now's the time.

If you've ever wanted to experiment with pretty pleats, now's the time. Accordion pleats are cropping up in unexpected places. They're a classic take on texture, but don't think these pleats signal school girl. They're playful and fresh in other fabrics, like chiffon, à la Jessica Alba in Marc Jacobs, or even a little naughty in leather. Whether you select them as a part of the whole look, or just to experiment with the details, they're modern and femme, and insanely flirtatious.

Then when Fall rolls around, make the look last by pairing your skirt with gray wool tights and booties.

Back to Cool: Drop Dead Gorgeous

The first thing I remember about Drop Dead Gorgeous — aside from the amazing Minnesota dialect — is the all-star cast.

The first thing I remember about Drop Dead Gorgeous — aside from the amazing Minnesota dialect — is the all-star cast. Pageant contestants Denise Richards, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, and Brittany Murphy all vie for the crown in little Mount Rose. But take away the big hair and pageant garb, and it's straight up small-town, all-American. So, when channeling the beauty queens, try cutie kicks, like Keds Classics ($40), glittery jewels, like this Statement Flower Necklace ($12), and sunny-sweet dresses, like C&C's Eyelet Cap Sleeve Mini Dress ($148). Just smile pretty and wave — and click the items above to shop the look.

Losin' It For Loose Shorts

Check out this fun shorts post from OnSugar blog amPartyGirl.

Check out this fun shorts post from OnSugar blog amPartyGirl.

I am absolutely loving loose shorts this year. I have never really been the type — mostly because I'm petite and I thought it would look like I was drowning in them. But actually I learned it's quite the opposite. Wearing loose shorts I look more mature, (which is good since most people think I look much younger than I am), but also because they are more comfortable and much more chic than a pair of poom pooms (translation: mini shorts).

Pairing them is easy — find a tank top and you're set. A long necklace and a pair of chunky sandals completes the look — or go for a pair of flat sandals and a printed tee. The best part — loose shorts are flattering on every body type. So go wild and lose it for loose shorts!

The Look For Less: Proenza Schouler Tie-Dye Tank

Did you happen to check out Proenza Schouler's Jack and Lazaro on Martha Stewart yesterday?

Did you happen to check out Proenza Schouler's Jack and Lazaro on Martha Stewart yesterday? So cute. In fact, they featured this amazing online-exclusive Hand-Dyed Tissue Tank ($275), and Martha showed the audience how to do a similar tie-dye treatment. Here's the deal: I love Proenza, but I don't have time for a DIY or the money for the original version. What's a Proenza-loving girl to do?

The Look For Less: J.Jill Cocooning Puffer Coat

Puffer coats are nothing new, but fashionable puffers have become a hot outerwear trend, especially in cold-weather destinations like New York City.

Puffer coats are nothing new, but fashionable puffers have become a hot outerwear trend, especially in cold-weather destinations like New York City. This J.Jill Cocooning Puffer Coat ($160, originally $180) is totally sleek despite its voluminous shape. I especially dig the dramatic collar and suave hue. But, I stumbled upon another puffer that's a bit more trendy and way less pricey. Let's see it.

The Look For Less: T Tahari Genevieve Jacket

Something about a motorcycle-style jacket in a luxurious knit fabric is so appealing.
T Tahari at ShopStyle

Something about a motorcycle-style jacket in a luxurious knit fabric is so appealing. This T Tahari Genevieve Jacket ($118) is cool enough to wear to a bar, and sharp enough to sport at work. The asymmetrical zip and leather-trimmed pockets set the tone. The price isn't horrendous, but I found a similar-looking jacket for way less.
