Billy Reid's Spring 2013 presentation Friday night lured showgoers with the promise of craft ales from Dogfish Head, but the crowd assembled stayed to watch the designer's muted take on Americana come down the runway.

As is always the case, Reid's main focus this season was on making sophisticated alternatives to traditional men's workwear. A gold cotton windbreaker was shown layered over a hand-tailored gray linen suit, while a tough lambskin jacket got paired with deep brown python penny loafers.

The women's side was infused with the same hardworking spirit but enjoyed its own touches of refinement. A beige suede duster floated over a simple white gauze dress, and suits in varying neutral shades were perfectly primed for the office. But a pair of silk dresses decorated with pale golden stripes were the height of the collection's easy elegance.
First Look: All the Pieces From the eBay Holiday Collective
Not to be outdone by the announcement of Target's and Neiman Marcus's upcoming collaboration extravaganza, eBay has announced that it too will partner with some very big names for Holiday 2012.

Seven designers — Billy Reid, Chris Benz, Fallon, Jonathan Adler, Ruffian, Steven Alan, and Tibi — have teamed with the cyber giant to create a limited edition collection, online November 12. The 40-piece collection — titled eBay Holiday Collective — will feature about five pieces from each designer and will include womenswear, menswear, jewelry, travel, electronic accessories, and home decor; all pieces will ship for free and are priced from $50 to $100.

"Thrilled to be collab'ing w @eBay_Fashion this holiday on a ltd edition, locally made collection. All my friends can attest I love Ebay!" Fallon's Dana Lorenz tweeted following the announcement, while Chris Benz responded "You & me, both, sister! Xx". In fact, it seems a love of eBay was somewhat of a prerequisite. All the participating designers were chosen because of "their genuine enthusiasm for eBay," the brand's general manager of fashion, Jeff Somers said, adding that "each [designer] brings originality and a distinct point of view, and embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of our marketplace."

Eddie Borgo, Prabal Gurung, and Billy Reid Celebrate Their J.Crew Collaborations
>> The annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner collaborations kick off today — but this year, instead of Gap, J.Crew is the partner of choice. Billy Reid's 7-piece menswear collection is already online and runs through May, while Prabal Gurung's five-piece collection will be available online and in select J.Crew stores in June, and Borgo's pieces hit in July.
While Borgo's and Gurung's pieces have yet to be previewed, all three designers re-created pieces from their previous collections in new colors and materials for the collaboration, and J.Crew head of women's design Marissa Webb wore a pair of pants from Gurung's J.Crew collection to the launch party last night.
As for prices, Gurung says of his pieces: "Everything is under $500. I'm going to buy it for my sister, my cousins — everyone." And Borgo added: "I'm just excited to see what happens with this new customer. The cross-pollination of places like J.Crew and luxury brands — it's part of modern dressing."

New York Fashion Week: Billy Reid Fall 2010
Billy Reid Opens In New York
Last Friday we popped over to the new Billy Reid shop on Bond Street to check out their Spring 09 offerings and brand new Fall-stocked store. An interesting thing is happening to that pocket of downtown New York as menswear shops are opening every time we turn around. A few years back Nolita became the go-to destination for gentlemanly attire and now, just across Houston, the likes of Rogan, John Varvatos, and now Billy Reid are expanding on that draw. The Billy Reid shop, which shares the old Bowery Theatre space with Rogan (who opened up this summer), is as nostalgic and country-themed as the hotels (The Bowery Hotel) and restaurants (Freeman's) it shares the neighborhood with. The catch, in this case, is that Bill Reid himself is actually a red-blooded Southerner. Suddenly the rustic atmosphere appeared to us as more dynamic once we realized that it was, gasp, authentic.

In case you don't remember, Louisianna native, Reid, won the CFDA Perry Ellis award for menswear in 2001. His first New York store marks his fourth brick and mortar opening, and boasts the full mens and women's wear collections in stock. Check out our gallery of the new space below, and, if you're not in New York, be sure to shop Billy Reid online. A Southern gentleman gone e-commerce? Call us smitten.
