Even when I know my wardrobe's stocked for Fall, I can't resist adding another pair of booties to my collection, especially when they're so practical. These Madewell Sandstorm Booties ($188) caught my attention — and would play nicely with the tights, dresses, and other seasonal faves. Practically speaking, they're a near-necessity, and with that in mind I set out to make the purchase — until the pricey tag made me rethink . . .

If you have your eye on one of the famed Fall 08 booties (like this pair by Givenchy) then you might need some options for what to wear with them that won't be quite as costly. In this economy, it's all about investing in one or two pieces and then getting creative with the rest. Our opinion is to spend more on jackets, shoes, or handbags, and shop vintage or mass market otherwise. We're not endorsing an overboard H&M raid, but every girl deserves a few new things at the beginning of a season.
