Denim can be hard to pull off in the heat of the summer but eliminating the hardware makes it much easier. Whether it's chambray or true denim, there are plenty of breezy options to choose from this season. Even denim accessories have gone streamlined, giving them a much more sophisticated look. Stylish at any age and flattering on a variety of body types, there's a reason this menswear staple has become a favorite among the ladies.
We can always count on Rihanna to deliver fresh goods. The singer did some shopping in LA — here leaving Opening Ceremony — and looked flawless, head to toe. She funked up classic pearls by pairing them with a men's style chambray shirt. To retain femininity, she wore a Twenty8Twelve mini linen skirt, nude sandals, and matching white jewelry. Not the most comfortable way to shop, but certainly the most stylish.

This morning we got an email from Filson advertising their chambray work shirt. Now given the original demographic of Filson this is hardly surprising that a classic workshirt would be a popular item to send out in mailer, but the brand has been newly adopted by the Freeman's set with every creative yuppie in the LES and Williamsburg carrying their classic briefcase.
Indeed, the adoption of hearty hard living garments at designer price points has become endemic among the hipper retailers. Chambray in particular has become a fabric of choice for everything from shirts and dresses to trousers and shorts. Chambray, a fine lightweight fabric woven with white threads across a colored warp, originated in Mesopotamia around 50000 B.C in another age of intellectual flourishing so perhaps its just a fabric of the people for the next set of snobbish people. Proving that despite Sarah Palin's feeling of safety around Carharrts and steel-toed boots anyone can adopt comfortable workwear.
It may be Labor Day, but Michelle's keeping white pants in her rotation. Sometimes minimalism can be so refreshing — peel away all the layers and capture simplicity. That's what Michelle achieved while out and about with adorable daughter Matilda. She opted for a chambray shirt, white cropped jeans, light pink flats, and a brown messenger bag. The Ray Ban Wayfarers round out the look — too cool.
Just because Gossip Girl Blake Lively has hit instant fame doesn't mean she can't still shop on a budget. She can and she did recently with this Alpinestars Chambray Shirtdress ($68) she wore on her way to The Late Show With David Letterman. The bodacious blonde is really into casual shirtdresses, but considering the weather is warm and her body is hot, I can't blame her. I like how she rolled up the sleeves and went unbuttoned for an effortless feel. The dress could use some ironing, but since it's a casual style, it works.
I rarely feature the same celebrity two days in a row, but it's been so long since we've seen Reese out of her workout clothes, I couldn't resist. Here, she's taken a very classic look — a chambray shirt, white jeans, khaki cardigan — and added a twist with the low-slung belt. The brown accessories, mainly the flip-flops and hobo bag, add some depth to the ensemble. Altogether, it's a crisp look, perfect for Spring.
It was lust at first sight with this Oak Cropped Button Pocket Shirt in Chambray ($127). It's such a simple idea, taking a men's shirt and cropping it, but I think it makes a world of a difference. It's a more girlie and modern take on the boyfriend shirt. I can so see Ashley Olsen sporting it with black stovepipes and crazy shoes, but would you wear it, too?
