Over the weekend, while spending quality time with daughter Honor in LA, Jessica Alba created a whole new fresh color combo we all must try this Spring and Summer: chartreuse and cobalt. The actress topped her cobalt maxi dress with this Theonne chartreuse cropped cardigan ($258), then matched things up with blue ankle-strap platform Ralph Lauren sandals. A crisp white Tory Burch fedora added a resort feel, while her colorful Simone Camille bag ($975) lent an exotic vibe. Get Jessica's exact Theonne chartreuse cardigan to top over your cobalt maxi, cobalt jeans, or cobalt shorts. Then for an office-appropriate look, wear your chartreuse cardigan with a pair of chic wide-leg cobalt trousers from Asos ($70).
In the premiere issue of the new Traditional Home/Lonny digital magazine hybrid Trad Home, one of the 20 designers heralded for ushering in a "new trad" design style is one of my personal favorites: Jeff Andrews. Trad Home gives us a peek at a cozy living room Andrews designed for a client with a young family. There are plenty of elements to swoon over, like velvet upholstery, a plush shag rug, and a foursome of starburst mirrors, but what I'm truly coveting is the mellow yellow color palette!
A mix of chartreuse textiles, gilded furniture and accessories, and layers of dark greens paired with two shades of green paint come together perfectly to create a dimensional, engaging, and relaxed space. The surest way to replicate this look is to pick up some groovy green paint swatches and then head straight to the fabric shop to have your furniture upholstered. But I thought I'd start you off with a few mellow yellow décor items that tell this color story; click each item above to shop the look!
This little stool was unearthed at a Jacksonville, FL thrift store and purchased for under $5. As you can see, its upholstery was not only in terrible shape, but quite dated, and the stool's wood frame was also badly damaged. It was simply begging for a little paint, fabric, and a DIY weekend! Want to see how it was transformed?
On Monday night I headed over to my favorite bar, 15 Romolo, to be a guest judge for a Gong-Show Karaoke competition. The event was sponsored by Chartreuse, an aromatic French liquor with a vibrant green color. It just so happens that my current favorite cocktail — The Last Word — uses Chartreuse. I ordered one and asked my bartending buddy, Aaron how to make it.
The Last Word is a classic concoction that dates back to prohibition. It's an expertly created cocktail with four simple ingredients that mix perfectly. The Last Word is not sweet or bitter, but wonderfully balanced and smooth. Don't be intimidated by the gin, because the portions are equal, you won't even know it's there! A last word of warning though, drink too many of these and you may end up hungover. To look at the simple recipe, read more
Remember a while back I told you to highlight your khakis? This Leyendecker Tate Blouse ($65, originally $216) does the work for you. Alone, the chartreuse overlay would have been plain, and the same goes with the bottom layer. But together, they make a fine team, wouldn't you say?

On Monday, Kate Hudson arrived at the grand re-opening of the Burberry Beverly Hills store looking as gorgeous as ever. But we all know Kate looks fab even when she's not all dolled up for an A-List event. What struck me about this photo wasn't Hudson's attire — the boxy Burberry dress isn't the most flattering — but the palette is awe-inspiring. I adore the chartreuse shade of this silk dress mixed with the black and gray floor decorations and the beige walls. It instantly triggered the thought of one of my favorite crave worthy items, the Rug Company Durbar Hall Rug ($1,795- 25,920). So, I was inspired to design a room around this gorgeous palette and rug. To see my finds and hear my design ideas, read more
At the Food Network's NYC Wine and Food Festival, besides the delicious food, there was a plethora of interesting spirits. I waded through the depths of the rums, tequilas, and everything in between, and have picked my top four pours to share with you. If you're into trying out the newest, latest liquors, I highly recommend you seek out these bottles. Cheers!

A half green, half yellow color; it is precisely halfway between green and yellow, so it is 50% green and 50% yellow. It was named because of its resemblance to the green color of one of the French liqueurs called green chartreuse.
DKNY's Fall 2007 collection had an eye-catching satin chartreuse dress (left), which is fun for the holidays.
