Thanks to Malin Akerman's sexy cocktail wear at a recent InStyle fête, it seems draped LBDs are having a bit of a moment. And why not? They're a super chic but comfortable way to wear your black. The vibe is sultry, and the lack of structure makes for an easy fit, dreamy silhouette. Click on the items above to shop five Fab ways to get the look. Well, now you know what your little black dress should look like this Spring 2009--it was all about sheer, body-con frocks at fashion week this season. Although "sheer" and "bondage" were super trends in their own right, they came together more than once in the form of cocktail dresses. Some were on the looser side, like Christopher Kane's version, and others were explicit in their allusion, like the one from Thakoon. Alexander Wang and Rodarte did the look best, but that's probably because both brands play with the aesthetic on a regular basis. Whichever you prefer remember to put this on your shopping list--bonus points if you find it early and it doubles as your go-to holiday frock.
Just because it's a cocktail dress exploring one of Fall's biggest trends, doesn't mean it has to be boring or expected--these five dresses, each with their own unique take on the ruffle trend, would suit a variety of personalities and aesthetics. The Clu dress, for example, shows how ruffles don't have to be ultra-feminine while the Marc by Marc Jacobs dress shows how they don't have to look like they're trying so hard. The three above show ladylike, printed, and sophisticated instances (from left to right) and they're all, in fact, quite different as a result. To be trendy and still have style, it's essential to stay true to your own preferences. Thankfully, when it comes to this trend, contemporary designers gave us plenty of options.
Sometimes nude dresses can be really hard to pull off - you have to find the right shade of nude to complement your skin tone rather than clash with it. That said, shini has a done a fabulous job of matching her skin tone with her nude but not naked look. The dress she wore to her end of the academic year party is very simple, but it flatters her. And I love the red clutch and heels she added to make the outfit pop! Beautiful!
Here's what she has on:
- Dress: Bershka
- Shoes: Barrats
- Bracelet: Mango
- Bag: Dolcis
Congrats to shini!
