Fun fact: corduroy is a ridged form of velvet, which is why they're so warm and cozy. And like spiced cider and eggnog, we pull them out every Fall. This season, we're leaning towards colorful hues — think crimson red, purple, and mustard yellow — to add a fun twist to our wardrobe, along with neutral colors to temper our wardrobe. Looking for that perfect pair? Just shop our slideshow and update your look now with our top ten picks from Free People, Blank Denim, and J.Crew.
As far as Fall-specific wardrobe staples go, we look forward to changing up our bottoms for something a tad cozier. This season, we're embracing the return to the same retro-cool we saw outfitted on Miu Miu and Tory Burch's Fall '11 runways with decidedly '70s cords. In rich plums and rust hues, with high-rises and bell-bottom flares the feel is utterly cool and vintage-inspired. Of course, if that's not your thing, there are subtler ways to go — a skinny fit in black or red feels entirely more modern, and a slouchy boyfriend pair is perfect for crafting a relaxed off-duty look. Inside, we've culled our favorite labels and cuts; just click through to shop.
Give your regular skinny jeans a rest for a while and invest in a pair of cozy cool corduroys. We've tracked down six pairs that are all on sale, so you can achieve cool, all without bugging your wallet. Fab's favorite is these J Brand Skinny Leg Corduroy Pants ($105, originally $158) — the grayish-white hue is super fresh, and the price tag is equally sweet. But any of the above styles will also keep you looking totally on trend. Click to shop.
If you ask me, corduroy is totally underrated. Not only is it sturdy –– and surprisingly comfortable –– but it comes in about a million colors, and the vertical lines are super flattering. This look from Fab reader noreese proves just how stylish and versatile it can be. Her corduroy skirt looks adorable when paired with a striped top, black tights, and cute, flat, ankle boots. This is definitely a cord look to keep!
Congrats to noreese!

The texture of your favorite childhood cords gets a style redux with a tighter, more sophisticated silhouette. These aren't your brother's clunky corduroys; with a more polished, flattering fit, they're made to be tucked into any of Fall's Fab boots or paired with your highest platform pumps — corduroy-chic.

Due to its durability, corduroy is a great choice for home decor. While the origin of corduroy is obscure at best, its production can be traced to the East Lancashire and West Yorkshire districts of England. Along with fabrics such as moleskin and velveteen, corduroy belongs to the fustian family of fabrics, which describes fabrics made of a strong, durable woven cloth with a linen warp and cotton weft.

It may be hard to believe but the famous little bear Corduroy is turning 40 years old! Don Freeman's tale ($15) of a stuffed teddy feeling ashamed about his lack of buttons is a classic that touches the hearts of adults and children. Adored and wanted by a patient girl, her mother convinces her to leave without the doll. Worried about his lack of buttons, the furry bear spends the night in the department store where he finds himself in a bit of trouble. When the sun rises again, both Corduroy and the little girl are happily reunited — faults and all.
Teaching your tots about patience, imperfection and obedience, this text, no matter the main character's age, will never get old. Celebrate the green overall adorned bear with a special 40th year edition Russ Corduroy that reads the story aloud to your child.
