I bought this kitschy pink mini Christmas tree for $5 at Polkadot Variety in SF on a whim, thinking I'd display it as-is in a small flowerpot. But when I got it home, I realized the tree looked a little bare. Since ornaments probably don't come that small, I decided to unearth my big box of costume jewelry and use rock star pins, clip-ons, buttons, keys, pendants, and guitar picks as ornaments. I used embroidery floss to create hooks for the pieces that couldn't clip onto the tree on their own. And, I wrapped a set of pearl Mardi Gras beads around it as a garland.
No, it's not the most impressive tree, but it kind of makes me laugh. And, my rhinestone costume earrings add a bit of sparkle.

Yoox.com is now my favorite jewelry stop. The online retailer launched Past & Present, a new area dedicated to contemporary and vintage jewels. In contemporary, you'll find modern pieces like skull earrings and chain-link rings. In vintage, there are one-of-a-kind necklaces, art deco earrings, and sparkly pieces, like these Unsigned Crystal Earrings ($85). Hurry, they're selling out quickly.

Check it. Prada just introduced a limited-edition line of delectable retro-inspired costume jewelry. The stones might be faux, but that doesn't stop Prada from using the best material. The pieces are made out of an exclusive crystal-like and shatterproof material cut and colored to resemble the real thing.

The collection includes necklaces, earrings, and bracelets made in rich hues of purple, kiwi green, teal blue, and copper. In addition, Prada will also debut a fun assortment of totes and handbags, which will also be adorned with faux stones. Both collections drop next month and will retail from $390 to $1,410.
