With classic trouser detailing, amped-up shapes, and jaunty above-the-ankle lengths, this season's wide-legged cropped pant might just be the most spirited way to experiment with fashion's new proportions. From Derek Lam to Max Mara, the Fall 2012 runways were teaming with the look, and judging by its prominence in the Resort 2013 collections (Carven, Alexander Wang) — not to mention its popularity among some of our favorite street-style regulars — it seems this pant is bound to stick around for a little while longer. Keep it chic by pairing yours with shrunken jackets and fitted knits — and don't forget the heels.

Trend Alert: Cropped Trousers
The pants that dominated the Spring runways were a varied lot, from slouchy borrowed-from-the-boys trousers to high-waist '70s styles to the clean, crisp, cropped trouser we saw at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, and DKNY. With our new Spring shoes dying to break free, the cropped trouser wins our vote for best way to show off new shoes and just a hint of skin. Here are our editors' picks for the best cropped pants, ranging from neutral hues to pops of bright color.

March Shopping Madness! Crop Those Pants
Denim, khaki, linen, twill — no matter the fabric, crop those pants. Long bottoms have their place, but short ones feel especially modern at the moment. To achieve the look, you can either cuff your long pants, cut them, or buy them 'ready cropped.
This Victoria's Secret Chambray Cargo Crop Pant ($50) screams fresh. The pockets lend utilitarian chic, while the drawstring ankles give the ability to make them as fitted or loose as desired.
Celebrity Style: Claudia Schiffer
You know, it's really hard to try to incorporate color into your wardrobe when Supers like Claudia make black, white, and nude look so good. Claudia attended the 2009 Fashion Fringe launch party in London looking like a modern Barbie doll. I also want to give a shout out to her wearing pants — you can do a lot with cool pants, but so many celebs veer toward skirts and dresses. And cropped pants no less. An animal print blouse spices things up while nude suede sandals elongate. Some fun is even delivered via a baubly bracelet. I think I'm in love . . .

Spring Peek: Cropped Pants
If anything stood out on the Spring runways it was the new pant styles. Harem, bermuda, pedal pusher, leggings, rolled, tailored — we witnessed them all. As someone who has always been keen on cropped pants — what better way to show off your Fab shoes? — I am psyched.
I know what you're thinking shorter-than-thou ladies, and 'tis not true; you too can get in on this fresh trend. Just add some heels (wedges are cute here) for height and keep your silhouette loose and lean and you'll actually appear that much taller. The real beauty is there are so many styles to choose from and you can create looks from items you already own.
My favorites are these cool gray scrunched leggings from the slick Celine runway, Derek Lam's simple black slims, and, for drama's sake, McQueen's yellow harem pants.

Celebrity Style: Claudia Schiffer
On the heels of her Spring Yves Saint Laurent ad release, Claudia struts her supermodel stuff in a perfectly layered ensemble. Her street style is absolutely admirable. While not everyone can pull off cropped pants and ankle boots — I only recommend that if you're tall and/or lanky — there are other creative things going on here. Her palette is totally Fall, her fur jacket is plush, and her bowed scarf adds a touch of aristocratic flair. You're not Super without big sunnies and a designer bag — local Brit Anya Hindmarch in this case. Keep on strutting, Claudia.

3.1 Phillip Lim Pleated Linen Trousers: Love It or Hate It?
The rich blue hue and slight crinkled effect on these 3.1 Phillip Lim Pleated Linen Trousers ($275) are worth mentioning. And while I'm still warming up to the new pant silhouette, these are a contender. Alas, they're trendy and I just don't think very flattering, do you?

Look of the Day: Poised to Perfection
The cloudy skies of London don't deter THEHOUSEOFSTYLE from looking good, no, great. She's poised to perfection in her fresh ensemble. Her citron yellow top adds a burst of vibrancy to her dark cropped trousers and check out the gold detailing on her booties and belt. Quite the stylista!
Here's what she has on:

A Look We Love: Cropped Denim And Flat Ankle Boots

Everyone loves the new ankle boots that are taking Fall 08 by storm, but what about those days when you're running errands and need an element of comfort? We're loving the combination of cropped denim and flat ankle boots for this reason. Whether it's a loud tie-dye wash, a sleek dark skinny jean, or the boyfriend cut, pairing your favorite cropped denim with a pair of flat ankle-highs is a fashionable and comfortable option. The Repetto boots are our favorite but the fringe and motorcycle boots are both more affordable and classic. Take your pick, and indulge in this perfect combination.
Trend Alert: Ankle Skimming Pants
Scenario: It's cold, raining, and you don't know what to wear. A dress proves to be too flimsy and wearing pants would leave you soaked and muddy all day long. Believe me, I know what it's like to sit around in wet hems. I present to you ankle skimming pants. Wear these sleek and polished pants with heels or some super cute flats. They just make sense.
