New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: The New Pant

The item of clothing to put under the microscope from the Spring New York collections is the pants. Pant play has been creeping up on us — from Louis Vuitton's cropped and tailored trousers to Nina Ricci's silky pajama pants — but no item of clothing was rejiggered more than the pant. While Harem pants and slinky trousers have dramatic flair and seem to float down the runway, the real life wear is questionable. Case in point: Ralph Lauren's gold beaded pants. They are beautiful, no doubt, but would you wear these? I love sparkle and shine, and pants, so maybe I just need to warm up to the new notion.

Love It or Hate It

Ralph Lauren Black Label Devon Silk Shantung Pant: Love It or Hate It?

How wonderfully Sandra D are these Ralph Lauren Black Label Devon Silk Shantung Pant ($300, originally $498)?

How wonderfully Sandra D are these Ralph Lauren Black Label Devon Silk Shantung Pant ($300, originally $498)? True, I would not wear them in my day-to-day; false, I would turn them down come Halloween. The bright pink is so intoxicating, and you know I love the retro appeal of a cropped pant. Do you see my point or are these just an eye sore?

The sale encompasses tops, dresses, skirts, pants, outerwear, intimates, and even swimwear, but these Gap Colored capris ($35, originally $45) have especially caught my eye. Aren't they the perfect pair of cropped pants? Agreed.

Get Your Butt in Gear: So Low Cropped Pants

I love wearing cropped pants to workout.

I love wearing cropped pants to workout. Sometimes I get too hot in long pants and I don't like the gratuitous peep show shorts often offer. So I am always on the market for good cropped pants.

These So Low Cropped Pants ($62.00) are cute enough to wear in and out of the gym. The fold over waistband lets you make them as low or high as you want and the flared leg is flattering for most body types. They come in black, heather, charcoal and navy. I'll be investing in the charcoal and black. Buy them from Shopbop.com.

I can't help but think of the song How low can you go? How low can you go?

We're all aware of how pricey workout gear can be, which can be frustrating if you're like me and love having a big selection of gear at home. Well, user hepsmom has tipped us off on a fabulous bargain at Wal-Mart.

Danskin, a household name in fitness apparel, has a line of affordable workout gear called Danskin Now, which makes very cute cropped pants (among other things) priced from $12.94-$14.93 -- For that price, you may as well add a pair to your collection. If there is not a Wal-Mart near you, then all the pants can be purchased at Walmart.com too. Thanks for the great tip hepsmom!
