Mischa Barton Proves That When Paired With Pleats, Cutouts Can Be Classy
The ivory pleated cutout dress that Mischa Barton wore to the Women For Women International Gala in London last night teaches a valuable lesson in fashion: that given the right circumstance, any trend can be fabulous. Take for example cutouts; when on a super-tight minidress, they can scream tacky, but pair cutouts with accordion pleats and voila, they instantly become classy. What we appreciate most about Mischa's chosen frock is that the silky fabric and accordion pleats make it sophisticated, while the side cutouts lend much-needed sass and youthfulness. Together they make a dynamic duo worth dabbling in. Inspired by Mischa's look, we set out to find equally classy-cum-sassy pleated cutout pieces to add to your wardrobe. Shop your favorite below.

Celebrity Lookbook: Skin-Baring Cutouts
We've been quietly admiring these cutouts from afar, but it's time to dive right in to this skin-baring trend. The London premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo not only gave us more reason to be excited for the movie's release stateside, but leading lady Rooney Mara also stunned in a white embroidered Givenchy couture gown. Thanks to the subtle yet sexy cutout details, she flashed just enough skin to add a seductive flair to her elegant look. Olivia Wilde donned a keyhole cutout-enhanced black dress, Nicky Hilton chose a bright turquoise dress complete with sleek darted cutouts, and Nicole Richie channeled her edgier side in a leather boxy cutout gown. Take a look at how each chic celeb interprets this peekaboo detail and then shop similar looks at the end of the slideshow!
2011 Fall Milan Fashion Week: Versace
Abbey Lee Kershaw opened Versace Fall wearing a sharp military coat, like the sexy blond captain of an army of equally sexy soldiers, who marched down the runway in meticulously tailored dresses and coats. The clothes were cut tight to the body and bore geometric cutouts, subtly adorned with military-inspired gold buttons and pockets. Leather made an appearance in full leather skirts with matching leather jackets, a cool mix of badass uniform and chic sophistication. Behind the scenes, it's Donatella who is the real general at Camp Versace, drilling home Italian sexiness. It was a show heavy in black, but Versace's signature colors — turquoise and purple — popped up in an oversized baroque print and two-toned suede lace-up booties. For the finale, things got a bit more celebratory, with flowy gowns bearing thigh-high slits similar to Gucci, and Arizona Muse closing triumphantly in a white beaded gown.

The Look For Less: Alexander Wang Shoulder Cutout Tee
Sometimes sex appeal is all in the details. Case in point: this slinky T by Alexander Wang Shoulder Cutout Tee ($95). I swooned when I first saw the silhouette — oh so sexy, but not overly; after all, it's still a tee. And that's when I realized I couldn't justify nearly $100 on a t-shirt, no matter how hard I was crushing. So began the search for something more in my price range.

Kristen Bell in Cutout Embellished Dress: Love It or Hate It?
Kristen Bell normally impresses me with her outfit choices. She tends to be bold without being over-the-top. But I'm not sure how I feel how the embellished cutout dress she wore at a party in Maui. It's definitely one of the most daring cuts I've seen her in, but not the most flattering. It features a low V neckline, plus cutouts right below the bosom. Succumbing to the relaxed Hawaiian vibe, Kristen wore tie-up gladiator sandals instead of high heels. I need help deciding, is this stylish or not even?
