Fab Ad: Zac Posen Spring '09

Ladies and gents, you're looking at Zac Posen's ad campaign debut.

Ladies and gents, you're looking at Zac Posen's ad campaign debut. Here's the story on why he decided to jump on the bandwagon now. The publisher of indie fashion magazine Fanzine137, Luis Venegas, made him an offer he couldn't refuse: a double spread to create his ideal ad. Posen quickly assembled a team — Ellen von Unwerth as the photographer, his stylist friend Christopher Niquet, and model Alexandra Tomlinson — and got to work at his friend Lorraine Kirke’s house. "Once Ellen saw me singing Cole Porter, laying on top of Lorraine’s grand piano, she decided it had to be the spot for the picture," Posen said. We think it's kind of boring, what do you think?

>> IN THE LOOKING GLASS —The portfolio — and some outtakes — Ellen von Unwerth photographed in her makeshift studio backstage at couture last month is finally up.  Moments like Tanya Dziahileva in Armani Prive standing next to Anna Piaggi or a fish face-pink braided topknot combination at Lacroix were captured just seconds before the models were whisked off by handlers, to be stripped down and taken to their next show.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.
Girls on Film: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Plumes & Dentelles

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. There is no better way to start your romance-filled day than with shots from Ellen von Unwerth's 2005 book, Plumes & Dentelles (Feathers and Lace). Trust me, it will not only put you in a loving mood, but also a lusting mood! Models Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Melissa Rose Haro play dress up, Marie Antoinette-style. Pink, lace, ruffles, corsets, flowers, garters, pearls — if it's a symbol of sexy, it's included. These seriously make me want to rummage Agent Provocateur, pronto. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to reenact the scenes for your honey tonight. Wink, wink.

>> INSIDER WIRE —During Spring 2009 couture last week, The New York Times Magazine traveled to each backstage with Ellen von Unwerth and a mini-studio, capturing "quick and dirty tableaux vivants" that will appear in the Sunday Magazine in weeks to come.  Editor Alix Browne recounts her experience in the chaotic backstage world — watching the hairstylists at Christian Lacroix suspend the heavy earrings with ribbons worked into the hair; having Giorgio Armani drag their equipment, yelling “What is wrong with you people?

Do I have to do everything myself around here?”; and hearing Myf Shepherd exclaim, "I'm not Olga, I'm Myf!" [The Moment]

Fab Flash: Teri Hatcher Fronts Badgley Mischka Campaign

She may play a desperate housewife, but that didn't deter Badgley Mischka from picking Teri as the face of their glamorous Fall collection.

She may play a desperate housewife, but that didn't deter Badgley Mischka from picking Teri as the face of their glamorous Fall collection. Shot by Ellen von Unwerth, who is famous for her vampy style, Teri explained why she, of Wisteria Lane fame, was chosen: "This is not just about couture. It is how every woman deserves to feel beautiful."

The photographs delivered have a campy feel to them, and I have to say: I'm not a fan. Though I adore von Unwerth's works, this is too much cheese and not enough of the glamour a Badgley Mischka collection deserves.

The campaign will appear in next month's issues of Vogue, Instyle, and Vanity Fair, as well as in an outdoor campaign.
