After a tumultuous 2009 with the whole Esteban Cortazar and Lindsay Lohan drama, Ungaro is ready for a fresh start with the announcement of its newest creative director: Giles Deacon. The artsy British designer, who will continue to produce his namesake line, is set to show his first collection for the Paris fashion house in September. "I obviously don’t want to infringe upon my own line, but I like things that are very feminine, lots of color, great prints, great quality, some unusual cuts. All of those things that I like in the world of fashion design I'm going to bring to what I feel is appropriate for the Ungaro woman," Deacon said. Excited? We are, too. Take a look at some of Giles Deacon's past pieces that evoke Ungaro aura.

Giles Deacon Officially in at Emanuel Ungaro, and He's Bringing Katie Grand With

>> Less than a year after Lindsay Lohan and Estrella Archs were brought on to design at Emanuel Ungaro, Giles Deacon has been signed to revamp the brand once again. Deacon plans to continue his own line and will show his first collection for Ungaro — likely in presentation format — during Paris Fashion Week in October, for the Spring 2011 season.

In fact, Deacon said that his first two shows for Ungaro will be off the catwalk, adding: "Nothing is set in stone yet, but I want to be able to get my head into it before considering a catwalk show. Plus, a presentation can be a much more interesting way to show — I can walk people through the designs and discuss the ideas with them. It makes it a much more personal experience."

Giles Deacon Named Creative Director at Emanuel Ungaro

After a confusing season with Lindsay Lohan at the artistic helm (a decision over which then-designer Esteban Cortazar left the company) and having fired Estrella Archs (who was probably only hired because she agreed to work with Lohan), Emanuel Ungaro has finally decided to place a real designer in creative director position—Giles Deacon!

Deacon, who will continue producing his namesake collection, will stage his first presentation for Ungaro during Paris fashion week this October and will forgo runway shows for the first two seasons.

“I obviously don’t want to infringe upon my own line, but I like things that are very feminine, lots of color, great prints, great quality, some unusual cuts. All of those things that I like in the world of fashion design I’m going to bring to what I feel is appropriate for the Ungaro woman,” Deacon said of designing for the house best represented by frills and fuchsia.

The 40-year-old British designer is not deterred by the revolving door of creatives that have passed through Ungaro since 2004. “Yes, I’m totally aware and respectful of the pressure but at the same time, I’ve run my own business for eight years and worked in lots of places,” Deacon said. “I think as soon as you start worrying and thinking about that too much, you’re not concentrating on doing good work, which is the most important thing.”

Franck Boclet Out at Ungaro As Giles Deacon Rumors Strengthen

>> Less than a week after Estrella Archs announced her departure as chief designer of Emanuel Ungaro, comes news that the menswear designer, Franck Boclet, has exited the firm too. No reason was offered, but Boclet's departure appears to be more amicable than Archs's.

In his absence, Ungaro will halt its men's runway collection as Boclet transitions to creating an eponymous-menswear label with a "focus on basic luxury items at an interesting price point."

Meanwhile, back at Ungaro, rumors that Giles Deacon will take over as creative director have reached a fervent fever point.

Giles Deacon, who was spotted having lunch on Friday with Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah, has emerged as a likely possibility, although Ungaro declined comment. As of yesterday, sources told WWD a contract with a new designer had yet to be signed.

The brand is reportedly looking to have a more solid design direction and aims to achieve sustainability by 2011; a new designer would mark the fifth creative director for the brand in as many years.
