The Flower Recipe Book: Cook Up Beautiful Arrangements Like a Pro

Think of it as the floral arranging class you've always wanted to take — only now, it's in the form of a jaw-dropping coffee-table tome: The Flower Recipe Book ($25).

Think of it as the floral arranging class you've always wanted to take — only now, it's in the form of a jaw-dropping coffee-table tome: The Flower Recipe Book ($25). Perfect for everyone from the DIY bride (yep, just in time for wedding season!) to the avid farmers market flower forager, this new book makes artful arrangements look doable — even for amateurs.

Created by highly sought-after floral designers Alethea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo of Studio Choo, the book includes step-by-step tutorials for creating arrangements, bouquets, wreaths, and garlands categorized by season and formality. Breathtaking visuals aside, sections like the tool box stock list, vessel guide, techniques tutorial, and helpful hints section are the meatier portions you'll want to curl up with and study.

We're tempted to gather a group of girlfriends together for a spin on the traditional book club (think seasonal floral arranging instead of literary discussions). Fun, right? For just a taste of what this book has to offer, keep reading to discover how easy it is to create this purple and yellow anemone stunner.

Look of the Day: Edgy Floral

Yowza! This look from Fab reader FashionablySocial has me totally inspired to take a walk on the sartorial wild side.

Yowza! This look from Fab reader FashionablySocial has me totally inspired to take a walk on the sartorial wild side. She took a risk by tucking a low-cut floral button-up into a pair of high-waisted black harem pants, then suited up with a pair of knee-high leather boots and a red patent clutch. It's a bold look, but one that can definitely be pulled off — if you're on the shy side, just layer a slim tank underneath for extra coverage.

Congrats FashionablySocial!

Summer Style: Flower Arranging Tips From Paul Lowe

I'm not the only one who thinks that one rule of Summer style should be keeping things simple.

I'm not the only one who thinks that one rule of Summer style should be keeping things simple. Interior and food stylist Paul Lowe agrees that simple presentations can make a huge visual impact when it comes to flowers. I asked him if he could some simple Summer styling techniques for flowers, and he happily agreed.

Here's one of Paul's flower tips: "When I work with flowers I always try to keep it simple. I don't like mixing too many types of flowers in a vase. I believe that one kind of flower in a vase makes a bigger statement then a mix of flowers. If you want to use a mix, put them in separate vases."

A Bouquet of Summer Scarves

Someone loves her scarves.

Someone loves her scarves. Enjoy this bouquet of scarves from OnSugar blog Thelacelasso.

I went out to get the mail this morning and was greeted by a welcome warm breeze. It reminded me of summer patios, camping, beaches, sweet wines and sweet flowers. I immediately went inside to make a cool peach smoothie and wrapped a floral scarf around my neck. I have more floral scarves than there are summer days but it means I can wear two or three different ones each day. I snapped off a picture of the one I'm wearing today and even found a few more I might like to add to my bouquet. A girl can't have too many flowers can she?

How do you like my side braid?? I managed to pull this one off the first time and considering it's the most satisfactory one I've had, I was too scared to unravel it and try again!

Look of the Day

Look of the Day: In Love With Floral

There's no denying — I'm in love with floral, and totally smitten with TembemNORA's take on it.

There's no denying — I'm in love with floral, and totally smitten with TembemNORA's take on it. The bold aqua hue of her cropped top plays a cheeky opposite to the deep florals in her skirt. Topped with a feather headband and smart t-strap flats, she's downright demure and completely chromatic.

Here's what she has on:

Top: Blanco
Skirt: Tailor Made
Feather Headpiece: IT.C Mangdu
Shoes: Zara

Congrats to TembemNORA!

Love It or Hate It? Flora Pouf

As if I didn't have enough poufs to choose from, now I've found one that's made from flowers.

As if I didn't have enough poufs to choose from, now I've found one that's made from flowers. The Flora Pouf ($549) features hundreds of laser-cut wool flowers that create an organic, tousled alternative to the sleeker Moroccan poufs I've often featured. Are you a fan? Or is it too busy for you?

Inspired: Big, Bold Florals

I love this informal painting from artist Cy Twombly, which was featured during the preview of the newly built Brandhorst Museum in Munich, Germany.

I love this informal painting from artist Cy Twombly, which was featured during the preview of the newly built Brandhorst Museum in Munich, Germany. Inspired by the big, messy floral pattern in the painting, I thought I'd see if I could find anything similarly inspiring in the home decor world.

One favorite that instantly came to mind was the Terai Folding Chair ($198) from Anthropologie. While I was skeptical of this chair when I saw it in the catalog, after checking it out in person, I have to say that I'm crushing a little on the design and textile patterns used in the Terai. It's also surprisingly sturdy.

Los Angeles Fashion Week: Amelia Toro Spring 2009

We're big time fans of chiffon and half expect it from Los Angeles because of the climate, so we were pleased when some of the Amelia Toro designs showed really pretty examples of this fabric.

We're big time fans of chiffon and half expect it from Los Angeles because of the climate, so we were pleased when some of the Amelia Toro designs showed really pretty examples of this fabric. There was red printed maxi dress that was very loud without being tacky, a nude pleated dress that would have been a great day-to-night piece, and a sky blue ultra-feminine dress that would go perfectly with an over-the-top pair of heels. There were some floral prints we could have done without because they looked dated, like Lisa Loeb-era, and also some silhouettes that wrongly evoked the same time period, but aside from that everything was fine. Another nice touch were the striped maxi dresses that we nice a sporty option. Horizontal stripes might scare off some people but in Los Angeles we're guessing they are less likely to avoid such things.

Steal of the Day: French Floral Placemats

Much like shoes and handbags, you can never have too many placemats — or any table linens, for that matter.

Much like shoes and handbags, you can never have too many placemats — or any table linens, for that matter. They're simply an effortless accessory that dresses your dining room up or down. Inviting the parents over? Go classic with simple white, perhaps a monogram. Having a casual brunch with friends? Try the Elsewares French Floral Placemats ($19.99, reduced from $26). Their bold poppy print will bring personal style to your table, while their dishwasher-safe polypropylene material makes them durable enough for everyday use. Available in burgundy, red, or black and white, you can buy all three and mix it up, depending on how rouge or noir you might be feeling each day.
