Met Gala: Sarah Jessica Parker

We didn't expect anything less than punk perfection from Sarah Jessica Parker.

We didn't expect anything less than punk perfection from Sarah Jessica Parker. Needless to say, the actress killed it tonight in an ensemble composed of a black and gold printed Giles Deacon gown, tartan thigh-high boots by Christian Louboutin, and an outstanding Philip Treacy mohawk headpiece that only she could pull off. The look channeled a major punk-meets-glam vibe, which she furthered with decadent Fred Leighton jewelry. Do tell — are you loving her look?

Giles Spring 2013

Giles Deacon played with an array of fabrics for Spring 2013: leather, silk, satin, and even denim.
Giles Spring 2013 | Runway

Giles Deacon played with an array of fabrics for Spring 2013: leather, silk, satin, and even denim. Laser-cut leather dresses were one of the standouts in the leather department, while denim suits and bustier-style dresses lent an air of casualness amid fancy fabrics. The color scheme was mainly black and white, with pops of tan and soft blue. All the models wore bright pink lipstick, giving each look a playful touch. Dresses ranged from ethereal and flowy to retro and flared, to all-out poufy. At the close of the collection, embellished maxi and mini gowns shined bright and stole the show, as did a few over-the-top hats that the late Isabella Blow would have no doubt gushed over.

Glee's Dianna Agron donned a fiery red Giles Deacon gown, and upon closer review, we spotted laser-cut swan cutouts along the bodice and the ruffled tiers of the floor-length skirt. To accompany this red-hot number, Dianna wore a solitaire diamond bracelet and diamond stud earrings. She kept her hair sweet and swept back, her lips a sexy matte red hue, and her eyes lined with just a hint of blue. Do you love Dianna's red ensemble?

Emanuel Ungaro Is Moving Ahead Without a Head Designer, Instead Relying on a Team

    >> After cutting ties with Giles Deacon earlier this month — Deacon signed a four-year contract last year, but produced a black, dominatrix-inspired collection (left) when management wanted a more heritage-driven line — Ungaro is moving ahead, deliberately without a head designer.

Emanuel Ungaro chief executive Jeffry Aronsson, who joined the company in June, says he will instead rely on the label's team of 35 employees, including some who worked under Ungaro himself. "I'm not looking for a big name from the outside, because I don't want the development of the brand to be dependent on a big ego." He hasn't yet figured out who will take the runway bow, and adds: "I don't believe in overnight sensations. My goal is to revitalize the company in a sustainable way, not a flash in the pan."

Ungaro is no longer carried in any major American department store, and even several of the shelves in the Ungaro store downstairs from the label's offices in Paris are bare. Aronsson says he plans to woo retailers back; however, even if it takes a few seasons, by focusing on tops, loungewear like caftans, and capitalizing on silks and prints. "I want the retailers to see this, that it's a whole new page," he says of the upcoming Ungaro show.

After Just Two Collections, Giles Deacon Leaves Ungaro

    Giles Deacon Leaves Ungaro

After just two collections, WWD has reported today that Emanuel Ungaro and Giles Deacon have “mutually decided” to end their collaboration. The brand has gone through numerous creative directors since the founder retired in 2004; Giles Deacon was the sixth designer to design for the brand. The Spring '12 collection, set to show during Paris Fashion Week, was apparently not designed by Deacon and instead is said to, "reflect the work of the design team." More details to come, but, for now, check out Deacon's past collections for Ungaro in the slideshow.

Giles Deacon, Emanuel Ungaro Part Ways

    >> Emanuel Ungaro and Giles Deacon have "mutually decided" to end their collaboration, they announced.

    >> Emanuel Ungaro and Giles Deacon have "mutually decided" to end their collaboration, they announced. Deacon joined Ungaro in May 2010 and produced two collections for the house; it is understood that the upcoming Spring 2012 collection, meanwhile, will reflect the work of the design team.

"Emanuel Ungaro embodies a very rich and distinct DNA which the company will deliver with a modern spirit," Ungaro CEO Jeffry Aronsson said in a statement. "The creative process for executing our strategy is largely in place and I will comment on this further at the appropriate time."

Aronsson was in attendance at Prabal Gurung's show last week; although he said at the time he was checking out talent for his consulting business, not Ungaro, that statement doesn't seem as convincing in light of Deacon's departure.
