Larsen Gray at ShopStyle

Remember this eco-friendly Larsen Gray Bellara Crop Braid Tank that I highlighted a while back? It's now on sale for $108 (originally $216). Great color and braided detail. Don't be fearful of the cropped silhouette. I envision it working really well as a layering piece. Perhaps a black tank or a turtleneck. Oh, and in case you forgot, it's made of 50 percent soybean and 50 percent organic cotton. Cool right?

Fab Blab: Kate Bosworth Wears Recycled (Phillip Lim) Zippers

You know, you hear about celebrities being environmental activists, but to see it seals the deal.

You know, you hear about celebrities being environmental activists, but to see it seals the deal.

We love Kate Bosworth; she's so cute and her style is ever evolving. We were super excited when we found out she was going to co-host this year's Gorgeous and Green benefit in San Francisco.

This is the benefit's fourth year in the making, and past hosts and supporters include Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, and Salma Hayek. Proceeds went to Global Green USA, an organization committed to various green initiatives like rebuilding New Orleans and promoting access to clean water as a global human right. Not only did PartySugar find a really yummy organic cabernet, I talked to Bosworth about her super cool Phillip Lim dress, which turned out to be, you guessed it, green.

After greeting Bosworth, she complimented us — "You guys look lovely." She had us at lovely. I knew her dramatic zippered LBD was from Phillip Lim's Spring collection, but there was more than meets the eye:

So this dress is Phillip Lim?

"It’s his green line. This dress is in his regular [Spring] line but he made this for me for this event. I told him I really liked this dress, but I know he has a green line, so I asked if it was possible to make it green and he said absolutely. This is some hemp, some organic silk, recycled zippers, and it’s been hand-dyed in natural dyes. What’s so great about it is a lot of people think green clothing can be boring or granola-ish. The reason I loved it is it shows how you can make an interesting design 100 percent green."

You thought you'd seen them all: Reusable shopping bags that practically every retailer sells now — but you have another option. its-laS-tik reusable bags ($14) are green, stylish, and bouncy.

Bouncy?

Unlike other canvas or cotton bags that don't stretch, its-laS-tik uses flexible fabrics that take the shape of its contents and move with you as you walk. You can double the load per bag but never feel the extra heaviness. Cool, right? What's cooler is the bags are manufactured by Hurricane Katrina survivors in New Orleans. For about $14 per 12" by 13" bag, you can take the stress off your shoulders and help those less fortunate make a living.

On Our Radar: Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Goes Green

Ecco Domani has just added some green power to their Fashion Foundation by adding a sustainable design award to its existing program.

Ecco Domani has just added some green power to their Fashion Foundation by adding a sustainable design award to its existing program.

“The fashion industry as a whole is taking an important step towards eco-conscious design and production. Through this new award we are proud to acknowledge those emerging designers who are using their talent to make a difference in the world in which we live” , said David Bowman, senior director of marketing at Ecco Domani Wines.

The award will be open to a women's or menswear designer who exemplifies their commitment to sustainability based on three criteria: environment, social equity, and economic viability.

The 2009 winners, one in sustainable design, four womenswear, one menswear, and one accessories designer will each receive $25,000 towards their showing at NY Fall Fashion Week in February. This year's winners had a lot to say and we hope next year's will be just as exciting.

FYI, this contest is open to designers from all levels so if you're blessed with a sewing thumb, you can enter, too. For more information on how to apply, check out Eccodomani.com.
