Linda Evangelista, Gisele Bundchen, and Karen Elson Star on New i-D Covers

Everyone needs someone to look up to, so for the role-models-themed Fall 2012 issue of i-D Magazine, Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi photographed a litany of the industry's boldface names for a series of beautiful covers.
i-D Magazine Role Model Issue Fall 2012 Covers

Everyone needs someone to look up to, so for the role-models-themed Fall 2012 issue of i-D Magazine, Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi photographed a litany of the industry's boldface names for a series of beautiful covers.

Gisele Bundchen is captured in black and white, surrounded by wavy tendrils of her own hair. Isabeli Fontana, made up like a classic '40s femme fatale, makes a neck brace look like the chicest, easiest-to-wear accessory there is, and Karen Elson's fiery hair is pushed into an extremely experimental shape.

A look at the rest of the models' hair — styled into tonsorial perfection by Luigi Murenu — here in the gallery.

Naomi Campbell's 42nd Birthday, LVMH's Green Week, and Tom Ford's Fragrance Award

Those stories and more in our daily news roundup.

Those stories and more in our daily news roundup.

  • Naomi Campbell celebrated her 42nd birthday in the holy city of Bethlehem, where she lit candles at The Church of the Nativity (built on the location of Jesus's birth). "I'm happy to be here," Campbell told a Palestinian television station. "Weapons and war, greed and oil . . . I hope it all stops. I care about health, about good vibrations, not destruction." [The Associated Press]

  • The best things in life are free, and that extends to fashion-centric iPhone apps. Among the best new ones are a mobile version of the bookmarking site Svpply and a shoppable street style app called Kaleidoscope. [The High Low]

  • LVMH will "encourage its more than 90,000 employees to adopt state-of-the-art environmental practice" during its first Green Week, an internal initiative designed to make the company friendlier to the Earth. "This year, LVMH is focusing on techniques to reduce its footprint in water-intensive sectors, including vineyards, cosmetics, and perfumes," the company said. [WWD]

  • Tom Ford's perfume Violet Blonde was named best Luxe Women's scent at the 2012 FiFi Awards, widely considered the Oscars of the fragrance industry. Ford's Jasmin Rouge scent also won in both the men's and women's Nouveau Niche category. [Fashion Etc.]

  • Kate Moss was overlooked for a spot on the new walk of fame in her hometown of Croydon, England. Instead, residents of the London suburb have nominated actress Peggy Ashcroft, comedian Ronnie Corbett, and composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, among others, to be honored with life-sized portraits in the center of town. Voting ends on June 16, so perhaps there's time for a write-in campaign? [Stylelist]

  • Vogue Netherlands is sticking to its practice of casting Dutch models for covers: Guinevere Van Seenus stars on the front of the June issue in a portrait shot by Annemarieke van Drimmelen. [The Fashion Spot]

>> Erdem turned to the leading ladies of Hitchcock and the late actress Romy Schneider for a Resort 2012 collection with a vaguely 1950s sensibility.  Refined, yes, but the devil is in the details. Lady-like silhouettes — collarless jackets, sheath dresses, capri pants —  get a bit cheeky in a palette of contrasting colors and vivid floral prints. A textural mix of fabrics play wildly against each other, while nipped waists and high collars reign everything in. Shot in London by Boo George, the lookbook features model Guinevere Van Seenus.

>> Another Fashion Film Planned from Rodarte; Gia Coppola Shoots Video for Zac Posen for Target —Fashion films continue to proliferate — Business of Fashion just put together a list of their top ten for the season — and already, two more are queued up. Last night at the Los Angeles screening for "Aanteni," the short film featuring Guinevere van Seenus that Rodarte did in collaboration with close friend Todd Cole, Cole revealed that he plans to shoot another short for the label next month, featuring the Fall 2010 Rodarte collection. “I never really understand what we do until I see how others interpret our work,” said Kate Mulleavy. “I trust Todd because we see things in the same way, but he takes it to the next level.” Also in attendance was Gia Coppola, who said she just shot a video for Zac Posen's Target collection, to hit the Internet later this month. >> INSIDER WIRE Kate Moss has been pretty off the radar since she hosted the Costume Institute Gala last month . . . until she popped up today at the Topshop offices. Maybe a vacation was in order, but she also worked at least a little, shooting an upcoming W cover — September 2009, perhaps — with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott on May 22.  More recently, the magazine photographed Lara Stone, Guinevere van Seenus, and Edita Vilkeviciute at a country house with a lake outside of London. August 2008 Vogue Italia: Still A Fan of Black Clothes, But What About Black Models?

>> The August 2008 issue of Vogue Paris is dedicated to Yves Saint Laurent, and likewise, the editors at Vogue Italia had their own August 2008 YSL tribute in mind.  The follow up to the hugely successful July "Black Issue" features Karen Elson, Linda Evangelista, Guinevere van Seenus, and Iris Strubegger in a funereal Steven Meisel cover story, "Silent." In one picture, a huge headstone features the name "Black," strangely implying that "black is dead."  I wonder if the message was purposeful?  A strange choice to follow up the celebratory nature of July's issue, especially considering that there are no black models in this editorial .
