What Kind of Hangers Do You Use?

Ever since I switched to slim, nonslip Huggable Hangers, my life has improved drastically!

Ever since I switched to slim, nonslip Huggable Hangers, my life has improved drastically! I swear! Not only can I pack dozens more items into my closet, but my silk tops aren't constantly falling off their hangers anymore, and my whole closet looks much nicer visually to have matching hangers. But, I still do like to keep a few heftier wooden hangers around for heavy Winter coats and beaded dresses. The thought of using metal dry-cleaner hangers makes me cringe; I don't think I could ever go back. But I have some friends who swear by plastic or wooden hangers — different strokes for different folks!

How about you? What kind of hangers do you use? Take the poll below!

I have a problem: my closet is bursting at the seams and I'm running out of storage ideas.

I have a problem: my closet is bursting at the seams and I'm running out of storage ideas. Luckily, a fellow clothes hoarder suggested I swap out my bulky wood and plastic hangers for these Joy Mangano Huggable Hangers, in silver/gray. Not only are they magically slip-proof, but they're super slim as well. In fact, my friend told me it will maximize my closet space — double time! Case closed.

The current bidding price is $9.99 and the auction ends on Monday, June 13. Good luck and happy buying!

Etsy Find: Handcrafted Bamboo Hangers

In my how-to on organizing your hangers, I talked a lot about choosing the right type of hangers for your wardrobe.

In my how-to on organizing your hangers, I talked a lot about choosing the right type of hangers for your wardrobe. But in guest rooms or coat closets, or when you're using apparel as home décor, sometimes aesthetics take priority over clips, clamps, and rubber grips. If that's the case, consider the Pretty Plum Sugar Handcrafted Bamboo Hangers ($25 for 10). These hangers are absolutely gorgeous, each crafted from a single piece of bamboo. Seeing as they're all made from real bamboo, the color of each varies, creating an interesting visual effect. I love the symmetry of the hooks on these hangers; it's almost too perfect. Are you hung up on these, too?

Do You Use Fabric Hangers?

Fabric hangers, in my mind, conjure up knitting grannies and stale, musty closets in country cottages.

Fabric hangers, in my mind, conjure up knitting grannies and stale, musty closets in country cottages. But they're actually great for protecting delicate materials like silk, expensive lingerie, and fancy dresses. I personally don't own any, but then again my closet may be in need of a hanger update.

Cool Idea: Garment Dividers

About a year ago, I gave you all an in-depth guide to organizing your hangers.

About a year ago, I gave you all an in-depth guide to organizing your hangers. If you're like me, your closet is in tip-top shape for a couple weeks, and then it's time to get organized again. Well, I don't know of any gadgets that will keep my clothes off of the floor, but these Simple Division Garment Organizers ($9.99) do seem like they'll help keep my dresses from wandering off into the pant section. The set comes with 60 labels (in English and Spanish) and 12 dividers. But, you can also print your own labels if you want to make them cuter or if you're the owner of a nontraditional garment that needs a unique label — chaps, anyone? These dividers seem pretty handy, but I'm also feeling a DIY coming on!

Pimp Your Crib: Children's Wooden Hangers

Why not store your tot's clothes on hangers worthy of their beautiful garments?

Why not store your tot's clothes on hangers worthy of their beautiful garments? These dreamy Children's Wooden Hangers (on sale for $11) are detailed with darling fairy tale scenes of dancing dogs, bear, rabbits and chicks in Victorian clothes (I dare you to find a 4-year-old who doesn't love that idea!). If you're not ready to mix these delicate hangers with the rest of the closet, consider using them for your child's dress up or doll clothes.

Mommy Dearest would surely have a thing or two to say about these plastic hangers, but I happen to think they are adorable.

Mommy Dearest would surely have a thing or two to say about these plastic hangers, but I happen to think they are adorable. Adding a peep of flair to your tot's closet, the orange and green organizers ($16 for the pair) may even encourage your youngster to hang up her threads when they're clean and pressed.

For those living in tight spaces where hangers are more easily on display, these sure beat the flimsy ones the stores give you with your purchase.

Style For Style: See Ya, Slippery Hangers

There's that one dress that always ends up on the closet floor.

There's that one dress that always ends up on the closet floor. It's slippery, it's silky — oh, look! It's covered in dust bunnies. Sometimes regular plastic hangers don't do the trick. Sometimes, for those special items, you need to nurture. These Joy Mangano Huggable Hangers ($14-$55) are not only velvet-flocked — providing the necessary tread to prevent slippage — they also come in fun, bright colors. These hot pink ones are for the ultimate girlie girl; Fab will take the bright purple ones. See ya!

Pimp My Crib: Paper Hangers

I spent a couple of hours reorganizing my kids' closets last night and while my daughter is getting pretty good at lending a hand in the task, these decorative hangers might have been more inspiring than our pink plastic ones.
