Karl Lagerfeld Cancels Signature Collection Show to Work on New "Masstige" Collection

>> Karl Lagerfeld will debut his one-off Hogan by Karl Lagerfeld capsule collection on Oct.

>> Karl Lagerfeld will debut his one-off Hogan by Karl Lagerfeld capsule collection on Oct. 2 during Paris Fashion Week, with a film he conceived of and captured for the occasion to be screened at the presentation.

But he will not follow up with his signature Karl Lagerfeld collection's fashion show the next day, as was previously scheduled: the presentation has been cancelled, and the Karl Lagerfeld line will be realigned as more commercial, with less involvement from Lagerfeld. The collections will be sold in showrooms in Paris and Milan. Lagerfeld is instead working on a new "masstige" ready-to-wear collection, expected to be ready for Fall 2011, which will be sold online. The Lagerfeld company said negotations are under way “for the distribution and production of the designer’s new vision,” focused on the idea of "mass elitism."

Karl Lagerfeld is a busy man, but he's found time to team up with Hogan for a one-off Spring 2011 capsule collection. "For Hogan, he [Karl] will reinterpret all the iconic elements in both apparel and accessories, which will help raise Hogan’s visibility in Asia and especially in China," said Diego Della Valle, longtime friend and CEO of Tod's SpA, which owns Hogan. The brand will open its first flagship in Shanghai this Fall.

Here is a sneak peek of the collaboration — army influences, layers, and crisp jackets abound. What do you think?

The Lagerfeld label, a subsidiary of Tommy Hilfiger since 2005, was not part of the Hilfiger acquisition earlier this week by Phillips-Van Heusen, and will be retained by former Hilfiger owners Apax. Of Lagerfeld, Apax partner Christian Stahl said: "It’s not commercially the best brand in the world, but in terms of appeal and recognition, I think it’s a great brand. We’re going to focus on it and develop it.” But he's not denying that Apax will try to sell the label: “Every company we own is for sale.” [Style File, WWD]

C-ute. Check out Dakota Johnson (Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson's daughter) modeling alongside Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann for Thakoon Panichgul’s ready-to-wear debut for Hogan. Not bad for a newbie in the celeb modeling biz.Shot by Jessica Craig-Martin, the famous offspring laugh and play on the concrete steps at NYC's Morimoto restaurant while looking beautifully rough and tough. I quite fancy the abundance of leather jackets and have-to-have bags, but not so much the futuristic tennis shoes. What do you think — want to join in this fun?
