Break Time: Chris Benz Is Skipping Fashion Week, and He's Not the Only One

Chris Benz says he won't show a collection at New York Fashion Week next month, and will use the extra time to focus on the development of his brand.

Chris Benz says he won't show a collection at New York Fashion Week next month, and will use the extra time to focus on the development of his brand.

"We have received great feedback from the marketplace after just one season," the designer told WWD. "I want ample time to implement all that we have learned."

Benz introduced a contemporary jeans label, called CB Denim, at his Spring 2013 presentation in September. In November, he told The New York Times that he planned to bring his brand and its price point from the designer arena into the "upper contemporary" market. "We were working so hard but not reaching as many fans as we'd like," he said.

But Benz isn't the only designer skipping the Fall 2013 shows: Cacharel announced just last week that it will forgo its show during Paris Fashion Week. There's also been some speculation that Holmes & Yang, the line designed by actor Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang, won't show in New York because it's not listed on the official Fashion Week schedule.

Holmes & Yang Spring 2013

If Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang are intent on winning the affections of New York's hard-lined fashion types, than it's safe to say that they're off to pretty good start.

If Katie Holmes and Jeanne Yang are intent on winning the affections of New York's hard-lined fashion types, than it's safe to say that they're off to pretty good start. Their intimate Spring 2013 presentation — the duo's first official outing on the New York fashion calendar — certainly offered up plenty of chic, downtown-tinged options.

The focus here was on basics, but there was nothing boring about these clean-lined looks. One speckle-print shorts suit, for example, was the kind of thing that someone could easily make a statement in at night, but its individual pieces were relaxed enough that they could just as easily be paired with more casual pieces for day. Likewise, a sexy V-neck tank in slick black leather with skinny spaghetti straps looked right at home paired with an olive silk maxi skirt, while one strapless jumpsuit in breezy silk had black lace insets running down the leg for a hint of romantic appeal. If this is the kind of elevated versatility Holmes & Hang is capable of, then it will be fun to see what else the pair can do.

Katie Holmes Is Headed to Lincoln Center This Fashion Week

Instead of an off-site presentation, Katie Holmes has decided to stage the New York Fashion Week debut of her line Holmes & Yang at Lincoln Center.

Instead of an off-site presentation, Katie Holmes has decided to stage the New York Fashion Week debut of her line Holmes & Yang at Lincoln Center.

"This is a big deal for Katie to show in the tents, under the full attention of the fashion editors and the glare of the media scrutiny," a source told Page Six. "They could have done a small show elsewhere, so this proves she and Jeanne are very serious about their business."

Holmes and her stylist Yang started their label in 2008 to "create pieces a woman can wear over and over, and people won't necessarily say, 'Oh, you wore that last week,'" said Holmes in an interview with Elle. The line ranges in price from $370 for an envelope clutch to over $1,600 for a blazer, and is available at Barneys New York; a look at the pieces here.

Katie Holmes in Holmes & Yang: Love It or Hate It?

Interesting. What you see here is Katie Holmes in a navy leather bodice halter dress she wore to the Tropic Thunder premiere.

Interesting. What you see here is Katie Holmes in a navy leather bodice halter dress she wore to the Tropic Thunder premiere. But did you see who designed it? Holmes Yang. We've known Katie's style evolution is largely thanks to stylist Jeanne Yang, and the two are clearly taking their relationship to the next level.

What do you think? I have to say my eyes go to those caged shoes rather than the dress. Navy isn't my favorite on the red carpet, even though the leather banded bodice spices it up. Apparently there's no collection in the works, so we'll just have to keep an eye out for some more Holmes Yang modeled by you-know-who. Thoughts?
