If Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau is in the building, you know you aren't getting standard-issue hair, and the British stylist did not disappoint at Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2013. He chopped inexpensive wigs into mismatched bowl cuts layered over the models' hair for what he referred to as a "boyish kind of punk." The makeup matched the bold brows, which helped to balance the heavier hairstyles. Click through to see more looks from the show.
Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2013
The backdrop of Jean Paul Gaultier's Fall 2013 show was backlit to show the shadows of models posing behind a screen bearing the designer's name. If that visual effect wasn't powerful enough, the first few looks down the runway — shirts and jackets in stiff materials molded and seemingly bolted to their models' figures — telegraphed the strength and confidence that come with wearing a suit of armor.
And while there was an emphasis on strong, pointed shoulders in this show, there were also moments when Gaultier exposed them. After all, knowing when to show your strengths is just as important as knowing when to hide them.
Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2013 Runway
The rocker chick always has a place at Jean Paul Gaultier, and for Fall '13, she's taken on a distinct '80s punk vibe. Wherein, the styling is subtly subversive and the confidence of the Gaultier woman is bolder than ever. Models (with punk-inspired wigs) took the runway — as "Iron" by Woodkid played overhead — in an assortment of off-the-shoulder silhouettes mixed with loud jewelry, printed and patchwork-infused pieces paired with sweeping floor-length outerwear, and of course, the designer's signature strong-shouldered blazers and pantsuits with a metallic sheen. As for the finale? Models posed seductively behind a Jean Paul Gaultier-monogrammed light screen, which projected their shadowy figures to showgoers like a scene from a vintage burlesque number. For Gaultier, though, this kind of epic rock-star showmanship is par for the course. See all of the looks inside.
Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2013
Jean Paul Gaultier looked east, and specifically to India, for the inspiration behind his Spring 2013 couture collection. The designer told reporters that he wanted to pay homage to Indian Gypsies, and used the colors of Rajasthan to inform his palette.

"It's glimmering, it's incredible the colors that you see, it's superb," he said of the city in an interview with Reuters. "I tried to recreate a bit of that, but more the Gypsy side, rather than the Maharaja side. It's more like couture Gypsies."

Billowing sheer capes shot through with gold thread embroidery and veils in orange, pink, and purple sat on top of a few looks. Closer to the body there were intricately beaded dresses, sheer panels of fabric, and more than one bustier that recalled the iconic cone bra the designer created for Madonna in the '90s. But the long-sleeved patchwork gowns featuring tiers of ruffles are perhaps a little more fitting for wandering souls.

As for his bridal finale look? The model who closed the show lifted up her billowing white skirts to reveal four little girls who ran down the runway to perform a dance for the audience.

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2013
There's no shortage of designers who have referenced the '80s in their Spring 2013 collections, but so far, Jean Paul Gaultier is the only one who's sent models down the runway dressed as a selection of the decade's greatest stars.
br>
Ajak Deng adopted the hair and fierce presence of Grace Jones in a sleeveless black tuxedo. Hannelore Knuts was a dead ringer for Annie Lennox in short, cropped hot-pink hair and a double-breasted pinstripe suit (the jacket cleverly slashed apart to create a bolero and strapless vest). Then came Jessica Stam as the Material Girl herself, all black lace and mesh, with a bow in her hair. Karlie Kloss, in a kimono jacket and printed trousers, looked like Boy George. Sessilee Lopez, in a black motorcycle jacket and a black fedora, gave her very best Michael Jackson. And Frankie Mueller? Pure Ziggy Stardust in a one-legged, one-sleeved bodysuit made of an open-weave crochet. (Off the runway, Gaultier put four models dressed as KISS in the front row.)

These pieces were a fun dash of frivolity in a week that's shown some serious fashion. But Gaultier showed some strong and marketable contenders, too, among them a black gown with sheer triangular panels, some fun metallic baseball jackets, and a charming selection of denim pieces that went from short shorts to a duster jacket.
The Bachelorette Starlets Put a Glam Spin on Red, White, and Blue
Last night's red carpet showdown at the Bachelorette LA premiere proved quite the Americana-hued affair. Let's recap: Isla Fisher stepped out in a sexy red lace Reem Acra number, pairing it with nude satin Sergio Rossi pumps and minimalist Bulgari jewelry. Lizzy Caplan went the ultra-curve-hugging route with a white corseted Dolce & Gabbana sheath and sleek gold sandals, while Ali Larter struck a particularly retro note with her navy-striped ensemble. Kirsten Dunst's Jean Paul Gaultier dress not only made us swoon with its perfect shade of cobalt blue, but it also kept our attention with its subtle trench-coat-inspired button detailing and soft neckline-adorned ruffles. Her studded Chloé bag and classic Rolex watch added just enough intrigue to keep the outfit daring. With a star-spangled lineup of Bachelorette looks to choose from, which starlet gets your best-dressed vote?
