Designer denim like Givenchy's bleached lace-up boots and McQ's high-waisted retro-chic skirt meet classic staples like the faded denim button-down from American Eagle.

Fab Ad: Just Cavalli Spring '09

Is it me or does Kate Moss look extra beautiful in this campaign?

Is it me or does Kate Moss look extra beautiful in this campaign? The ad, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, captures the flawless Super wearing an array of the designer's tantalizing, Luxotica frocks and separates, looking undeniably glamorous. I love how the rich, tropical background complements Cavalli's lush animal prints and sensual palette. Her accessories are also amazing, and I can't forget to mention eye-candy models Kerry Degman and Justin Gaston. It's sensory overload, but in a good way.

Milan Fashion Week: Just Cavalli Fall 2009

Although Just Cavalli is in dangerous financial waters and had to back out of their runway slot at the last minute, the show must go on.

Although Just Cavalli is in dangerous financial waters and had to back out of their runway slot at the last minute, the show must go on. The Fall 2009 Just Cavalli presentation took place in Milan yesterday and revealed a tougher, more urban looking range than is typical of the beach-ready diffusion line. Perhaps this means Cavalli is ready for a fight?

Ripped Jeans Your Mother Will Hate

We don't mean to age ourselves or anything but whenever we think of ripped jeans we think of our Mother's taking us to JC Penney and saying, "If you want to wear ripped jeans, you don't need new ones.".

We don't mean to age ourselves or anything but whenever we think of ripped jeans we think of our Mother's taking us to JC Penney and saying, "If you want to wear ripped jeans, you don't need new ones.". Alas, even as grown ups, we can't help but snicker at wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on perfectly ripped pairs. Our favorites? The OAK midskinny pair with rips at the hips. Yes, that is the name of our new rock and roll band and yes, the high waisted version is sold out. Else we would have posted six pictures of just that pair. Get your favorites before your Mom says it's time to take the minivan home.

Kate Moss

>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —Kate Moss was photographed at a photoshoot Saturday afternoon in LA, and it looks like it's for the Spring 2009 Just Cavalli campaign, making it her second campaign for the label in a row.  The dress she was captured slipping in and out of is from the Spring 2009 Just Cavalli runway, and it was confirmed yesterday that she "just shot" the campaign in LA with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, so put two and two together and voila, pictures of the campaign in the making.

I Want This Wardrobe: Gossip Girl, Serena van der Woodsen

Last night's episode of Gossip Girl was filled with new beginnings.

Last night's episode of Gossip Girl was filled with new beginnings. Blair was trying to get in good graces with the Yale folks while Jenny presented her first fashion show. Serena, of course, was busy with her fluctuating love life. In an attempt to woo her new love interest, Serena pulled out all the fashion stops. Her Just Cavalli gown and jeweled Armani pumps were just what the love doctor ordered. Though you can't see it here, a cozy Vince shawl goes perfectly with her sophisticated frock. Note how Serena spiced things up with a colorful cocktail ring. Hail the queen!

Milan is Fashion's Janus No Longer

With the first two days of Milan Fashion Week's Womenswear Spring 2009 collections behind us an unfortunate pattern of subdued sobriety is already making itself known on a few unexpected catwalks.

With the first two days of Milan Fashion Week's Womenswear Spring 2009 collections behind us an unfortunate pattern of subdued sobriety is already making itself known on a few unexpected catwalks. Milan has always been a two sided coin, balancing the best in tailored craftsmanship with decidedly flashy (and occasionally trashy) overabundant dressing. It always seemed fitting that Italian fashion gave life to Roman god Janus' dual natures.

The trouble with this picture is that we don't need the calm sobriety of a Jil Sander in a Just Cavalli or a Moschino Cheap and Chic. If we want severe dressing we will go straight to the source. Milan's boldest and brightest exist for a reason and they serve legions of luxury's most amusing from investment banker girlfriends to Russian oil oligarch mistresses.

But Janus is also the god of beginnings and endings. The 90s glamazon head days are officially over even as we pretended at its resurgence for a few seasons of the aughts. There is no more outlandish bottles and models Euro-trash let's get sick and slick culture to look forward to anymore. Even the banks have closed. And so we begin a new age of sobriety with no clear end in sight. Its just a shame that the Italians had to bring it home so hard.

Fall Glimpse: Separate Together

Admittedly, I got very used to the ease and femininity of the dress.

Admittedly, I got very used to the ease and femininity of the dress. The dress had a good run — and now my closet is bursting with them — but it's time to be more creative. The return of sportswear for Fall will bring many brilliant separates; micro-mini and calf-length skirts, scrunchy skinny, and slouchy, baggy pants, sheer and boldy printed tops, and some freakin' amazing outerwear.

Michael Kors is one man who has always done separates divinely (wave to Jourdan Dunn at left). If you choose to go the Mad Men route, he is your fashion God. If you're more of a mix master, dig Just Cavalli. For modernists, Y & Kei's sculptured jacket and serious slacks inspire.
