Alexa Chung Shows Off Her Effortless Cool-Girl Style

Alexa Chung never ceases to amaze us with her effortless, cool-girl aesthetic, and her latest NYC ensemble is certainly no exception.

Alexa Chung never ceases to amaze us with her effortless, cool-girl aesthetic, and her latest NYC ensemble is certainly no exception. It's super easy to re-create, and you probably already have the right pieces in your closet. To start, Alexa wore a classic denim dress, then added an olive-green jacket for a utilitarian edge. Other touches included a bright red structured crossbody bag by Delvaux, lace loafers, and these tortoiseshell Karen Walker sunglasses ($250). We love the color combination, and her lace shoes provided the right amount of feminine flair. Mimic Alexa's latest outfit for your next daytime outing, and to transition the look to night, just swap the olive jacket for a blazer and the flats for heels.

If you've got little style setters at home, you'll want to mark your calendar for this June, when New Zealand designer Karen Walker's debut childrenswear line will launch at Uniqlo locations in the US and around the world. With "child geniuses" as the inspiration for the collection, it's set to encompass 18 pieces of mix-and-match apparel for girls between the ages of 3-11. The dresses, tops, pants, and skirts will feature the designer's signature alphabet print and a new pattern that's reflective of a child's doodles on graph paper.

"We drew inspiration from the look of Karen Walker collections and with a little help from my 5-year-old, Valentina, we picked out some of our beloved signature styles such as frill hem sweatshirt dresses and boat pants and restyled them for kids," Karen Walker said of her line. "As a brand with working parents in the team, we wanted to create a fun and spirited kids' collection that used high quality utility fabrics and would be kid-friendly and a great price."

Pieces will start at $16, and the collection will be in stores on June 3. In the meantime, get your fix for the affordable, adorable Uniqlo Kids line here!

Karen Walker Reenvisions '90s Grunge With a Bold Eye For Fall

We're seeing lots of graphic eyeliner this season, and the models at Karen Walker's Fall 2013 show had big, bold, and colorful winged eye makeup.

We're seeing lots of graphic eyeliner this season, and the models at Karen Walker's Fall 2013 show had big, bold, and colorful winged eye makeup. The vibrant eyes were paired with a grunge-inspired hairstyle and black matte nails.

The look: Bright makeup with tousled hair and low ponytails.
The inspiration: Siouxsie Sioux.
Color scheme: The green and orange eye makeup was inspired by shoes from the collection.

Makeup: Lead makeup artist Benjamin Puckey for MAC drew upon Siouxsie Sioux of the English punk rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees for inspiration for the vibrant eye makeup. The orange and green liners were created using MAC pigments and were painted on the lids using a fine lining brush. Brows were bleached with hydrogen peroxide, and the face was kept bare with a little foundation to make the color on the eyes really stand out.

Hair: Of the textured hair, lead stylist Laurent Philippon for Bumble and Bumble explained, "What we're doing is a little bit of a grunge revival." All the girls had their hair diffused to bring out their natural texture, and then their strands were set in loose braids to hold the look until they went out on the runway. He layered Bumble and Bumble's Prep and Surf Spray to get the natural-looking texture.

Nails: Nail artist Joaney Black for OPI created the punk-rock-esque manicure. She started off with Black Onyx and finished with a matte top coat for the ultimate in cool-girl style.

Since its launch last April, Anthropologie's online collaboration platform Made In Kind has consistently and quietly offered up some of the best capsule collections around. To date, there have been ranges from Gregory Parkinson, Timo Weiland, Tracy Reese, John Patrick, Chris Benz, and Samantha Pleet, among others, and each has been just as appealing as the first. The latest batch, available online now, is no exception.

Karen Walker, one of Made In Kind's inaugural designers, is back with a new line called Runway. Inspired by "Victorian seaside holidays," the dresses, skirts, and tops come in a nautical palette of blue, red, and white; a few striped-bottom ruffled pieces call to mind Walker's outstanding Spring 2010 collection.

Meanwhile, with a collection filled with mixed prints and femme silhouettes, Jen Kao is making her Made In Kind debut. Inspired by a trip to Bali a few years ago, her collection has a distinct East-meets-West vibe and also features five silver pieces — a ring, a necklace, two sets of earrings, and one very charming bracelet.

Karen Walker Keeps Big-Time Bangs on the Radar

From the red carpet to the runway, the oft-popular fringe has been taking a backseat to a longer, more swooping side style (which has been spotted at shows such as DKNY, Erin by Erin Fetherston, and Katie Gallagher).

From the red carpet to the runway, the oft-popular fringe has been taking a backseat to a longer, more swooping side style (which has been spotted at shows such as DKNY, Erin by Erin Fetherston, and Katie Gallagher). But that didn't stop Karen Walker from sending her girls down the runway with grown-out bangs so long that they tickled the tips of their noses. The designer, who's a fringe fan herself, paired her eye-grazers with a subtly texturized coiffure that didn't take away from the focal point. And with the bevy of hats and hairpieces that were staples in Walker's Spring 2013 collection, the bangs provided a great anchor for the structured accessories. Who said growing your bangs out had to be painful? Karen Walker proved that the look isn't going out anytime soon . . . especially when paired with a bright pink lip hue.

Karen Walker Spring 2013

For Spring 2013, Karen Walker's running theme was outer space.
Karen Walker Spring 2013 | Runway

For Spring 2013, Karen Walker's running theme was outer space. While that may sound a little more techy geek than usual for Walker, never fear. This play on the intergalactic came by way of the '50s and '60s, when, you know, people thought that we'd be whizzing around in jet packs and rocket shoes by now. It's actually pretty sweet to think about.

Thus, these were clothes that came infused with brightness, yes, but also a bit of nostalgia. Silhouettes were midcentury and sweet, with bell sleeves, ruffles, and prim little collars, while planetary prints, metallic-coated leather, and floating layers of organza hinted at celestial travels. But despite this collection's focus on a retro notion of the future, it still managed to feel thoroughly rooted in today.
