Her jewel-tone blue, long-sleeve ruched dress complemented her dark shiny hair and black clutch, while her gray peep-toe pumps added a light feel to the look. Frock Me Baby: Drama For Your Mama

Come to think of it, these dresses have way too much drama for your mama.

Come to think of it, these dresses have way too much drama for your mama. Well, that is unless your mama is anything like the always avant-garde Cate Blanchett, here in Alexander McQueen. Those who display Cate's experimental nature should bust it out and show it off. Dramatic shoulders, crazy asymmetry, heavy draping, feathers, folds, leather, bold silhouettes — let them be your best friends.

Warning: Dramatic dresses require confidence. Let Cate, and other red-carpet queens of 2008, be your guides.

Cheap & Chic: Nautical Navy & White

While Gabrielle Union's infectious smile draws me in, her nautical navy and white Laila Azhar dress keeps me there.

While Gabrielle Union's infectious smile draws me in, her nautical navy and white Laila Azhar dress keeps me there. The Summer season calls for sailing and sailing calls for a nautical outfit. Whether or not you partake in the water games, wear yourself a nautical navy and white ensemble because it's refined and refreshing. If a nighttime activity sounds more up your stream than daytime sailing, follow Gabrielle and pick a polished nautical outfit that will look appropriate on land, when the sun goes down.

Celebrity Style: Vanessa Minnillo

Former MTV veejay Vanessa Minnillo recently celebrated her new limited edition line of FLIRT!

Former MTV veejay Vanessa Minnillo recently celebrated her new limited edition line of FLIRT! cosmetics and her July cover for Lucky Magazine. I like the Laila Azhar dress she chose for the event, as it looks comfortable and dressy at the same time. (That seems to be the common theme throughout her wardrobe). Though, like many of her other fashion decisions, Vanessa played it safe, and she still makes it work. I just wish she had accessorized a bit more.

Moroccan-born womenswear designer, Laila Azhar is starting to emerge from the fashion shadows - and it's about time! Her no-nonsense, sculpted silhouettes are starting to turn heads everywhere. One of her pieces, a ruffle jacket, sure did catch my attention on a recent shopping excursion.

Laila came to the United States with her parents when she was five. She graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada with a BS in biology, but later decided to switch gears and study fashion design. In 2002, she relocated to New York and attended Parsons School of Design. Her first collection debuted in February 2005 for the Fall season. Today, Laila continues to provide us with truly unique and wearable dresses, jackets and tops.
