Last night, Madewell celebrated the opening of its new storefront on Fifth Avenue in NYC. The store itself looked amazing — think light and airy – and so were the fashionable party goers. Madewell designer and cool cutie Alexa Chung attended the event wearing pieces from her upcoming collection for the brand, while Julia Restoin-Roitfeld made a debut in sexy all black. Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Alexa coming soon, but for now, check out the slideshow to see who else attended the bash, plus a sneak peek of Madewell's new digs.

Brand Obsession: Madewell . . .

Check out this fun Madewell-obsessed post from OnSugar blog Shut up, I love that shirt on you.

Before I moved out to New York, Madewell was this sort of elusive, mysterious younger sister of J.Crew that I was just dying to meet. I'd heard about her in magazines, seen a few pictures of her online, but I was very interested to see what she was really like in person. A few weekends ago, I got my first glimpse. The store, in the Nolita/Soho area, was all I hoped it would be. It really is like J.Crew's sort-of edgy younger sister — but it's obvious they're blood-related. To say I wanted it all would be an understatement. I wanted to set up camp and live in one of the window displays. Like J.Crew, their perfect mix of preppy-meets-trendy-meets-edgy-meets-classic is my aesthetic to a tee. Their price-points are reasonable for piece-by-piece shopping, but outfitting myself in head-to-toe in Madewell will just have to wait.

Madewell's Easy Breezy Summer

After running into Alexa Chung at Coachella, I couldn't help thinking about Madewell and her collection with them.

After running into Alexa Chung at Coachella, I couldn't help thinking about Madewell and her collection with them. With warm weather around the corner, J.Crew's lil sis is stocking up on casual cool separates and fantastic frocks. The latest pieces are brimming with all kinds of denim — from dark and distressed shorties to whitewashed jeans — along with easy breezy tops, and flirtatious dresses. Everyone on team Fab is vying for that black jersey maxi. Ready to count down together?

Look Book Love: Madewell, Spring '10

Now that we know the inspiration behind a lot of Madewell's righteous pieces is Alexa Chung, let's examine its Spring collection.
Madewell 2010 Spring Look Book

Now that we know the inspiration behind a lot of Madewell's righteous pieces is Alexa Chung, let's examine its Spring collection. Dungarees — we called it — made a debut, along with the usual gamut of cute separates comprised of skinny pants, boyfriend jeans, and casual tees. Also apparent were a sweet selection of printed dresses and skirts — I especially love this black and white printed pencil mini. I think I'll have to stop into the NYC store during Fashion Week!

Alexa Chung Is All For Madewell

There's no stopping the power of Alexa Chung.

There's no stopping the power of Alexa Chung. The cool girl, who inspired Mulberry to design a bag after her, just got even more excellent now that Madewell has enlisted the style muse to design a collection for them. “I want to bring back forties tea dresses, sixties mod dresses. . . . I want to bring cute back," said Alexa Chung.

The collection, which debuts in September, will be just that with high-waisted pants and jeans, velvet dresses decorated with Peter Pan collars, and dungaree dresses. Just how did this hook-up happen? Apparently, one of Alexa's ex-roomies — and Madewell employee — told Alexa her pics were all over its inspirations walls. The rest, as they say, is fashion history.
