>> The New York Post reports that in the Kate Middleton cover race, Harper's Bazaar has been pegged as the frontrunner, as Bazaar's fashion features editor Sara Buys is married to Camilla Parker Bowles's son, Tom. Bazaar stylist Mary Alice Stephenson says, "There will probably be a war with Vogue, but Glenda [Bailey, Harper's Bazaar editor] is the woman to get Kate." Bailey's response when questioned, meanwhile, was more diplomatic: "I'm very fortunate to be editor-in-chief of Harper's Bazaar and, as a result, have lots of people who want to be on the cover. We're very, very fortunate to have some of the great Kates appear on our cover — Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett. Who knows the future?" [NY Post]
Knit brand White + Warren is surpassing its simple reputation. Its Spring collection is rich with luxurious transitional pieces — lightweight draped cotton cardis, a suede front bomber, pima blazers, and a big dose of cool. Styled by social Mary Alice Stephenson, we're shown how to jazz up a pair of denim shorts, how to sex up a yellow cardi (case in point to the left), and how to funk up a layering tank. I'm sold.
>> Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana Campaigns Under Way —Last week, Gucci wrapped its Spring 2010 ad campaign shoot in Miami, with Emmanuelle Alt styling once again, and this week, it sounds like Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana are taking care of business. Mary Alice Stephenson Tweets that Vuitton is shooting today in New York — Lara Stone has reportedly replaced Madonna for the brand, with Steven Meisel on photo duty — while Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce left for New York earlier today for their ad campaign shoot — funnily enough, Madonna is said to be on Dolce & Gabbana menswear duty this upcoming season. >> Last night, editors and models alike gathered at Cipriani to simultaneously launch Fashion Week — officially — and benefit one of fashion's favorite causes: AIDS research foundation amfAR. Anna Wintour presented and Donna Karan received an award for her contribution to amfAR's mission; Lara Stone, Caroline Winberg, Jessica Stam, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Lily Donaldson, and Anja Rubik (with boyfriend Sasha Knezevic) all got gussied up and came along for the ride. Afterward, there was a mass migration to Rose Bar, where they were joined by Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia for a little enjoyment of the calm before the storm.

Marchesa, Marchesa, Marchesa. It was all about Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig's creations last night at A Night of a Thousand Lights. The party, which benefited St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in NYC, was attended by none other than fashionable, Marchesa-clad ladies. Diane Kruger, Iman, Michelle Monaghan (whose swirly accordian-pleated dress I want), Joy Bryant, and Mary Alice Stephenson all schmoozed, wined, and dined to the background of a Marchesa fashion show. Tired of hearing me say Marchesa? See the night's events for yourself.
