Sometimes all it takes to make your wardrobe staples fresh is pairing them in a new light — just ask Derek Lam about it. So, for a color combo that'll make you fall in love with your military-hued favorites all over again, just add some navy. It's a styled way to wear the two hues — just mix textures, silhouettes, and fits to make it even more interesting. Try a military-style jacket with a navy body-con mini, an olive tank with silky navy pants ($120, originally $188). Really, the possibilities are endless, and the results are crazy-chic.
Trend Alert: In the Navy
Lauren Conrad suited up in the navy this week — and she wasn't the only one sporting the trend. Jessica Biel also donned a playful Erin Fetherston jumpsuit in the same deep sea hue. And why not? This is an easy silhouette, and the moody midnight color is a chic Summer alternate for your basic black. The key is to work the sexy angle to avoid looking like you're in uniform. Try a little ruffle à la Lauren, or go strapless and bare some skin — anchors away!
I Love Your ShopStyle: Dazzling Evening
Looking to have a dazzling evening? Look no further than BeautifulnDirtyRich's snazzy ensemble. She shows us it doesn't take much to stun. A gold sequin dress is a must and equally important are touches of navy. So the next time you're tempted to pair gold with black, think again, think navy. Still eve-appropo, way more Fab.
Celeb Style: Rosario Dawson
Rosario showed support for Tommy Hilfiger by attending an NYC party hosted by the designer. The actress opted to keep her colors dim, specifically in the blue family. The midnight blue draped dress lends softness to her structured navy blazer. Opaque tights, black booties, a quartz necklace, and a couple bangles round out her sharp look.

I Want This Wardrobe: Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf
Brriingg — time for class! Monday night's Gossip Girl fashion was all about the polish and the prep. Who better than Blair to demonstrate the art of exuding school girl sophistication in a navy blue Diane von Furstenberg suit and sassy red Dior bag? To keep herself warm, she layered her short sleeve jacket with an ivory top. Though you can't see it in the pic, white knit tights and simple black pumps complete her prim and proper look.

Nurse From Iconic Times Square Kiss Picture Revisits NYC
A 90-year-old woman who claims to be the young nurse in the iconic "Kissing the War Goodbye" photo from WWII fell into the arms of another charming young Navy man this weekend.
Edith Shain, who lives in Los Angeles, posed for photos in her token nurse's uniform and tights — just like the outfit she wore in 1945 — before going to see a revival of South Pacific. She will serve as grand marshal of NYC's Veterans Day parade today and ride a float with a group of veterans.
On Aug. 15, 1945 Shain joined thousands of people celebrating in Times Square after Japan surrendered. She says a sailor suddenly grabbed and kissed her — the precise moment a Life magazine photographer caught it on film. The photographer didn't get the name of the kissing couple so years later Life went on a quest to find them and ended up with a bunch of claimants. At least three veterans say they are the strong sailor, and at least one other woman has claimed to be the nurse. But Shain remains convinced she is the gal. Celebrity Style: Emma Stone
Wasn't I just talking about what a doll emerging star Emma Stone is? She looked spot on at the Pineapple Express premiere. She is young, fun, and feels comfortable in her skin; her outfit said just that. The mixing of black and blue creates a cool moody effect. Her black wraparound belt and the subtle bubble hem contrast each other and her peep-toe booties were fresh. This leaves me wanting to see more from the fresh-faced star.

Color Wheel
The best style is shaped by a strong personality. But sometimes it can be hard to know what your personality should mean when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. Community member The Space Between My Peers has listed her personal colors and asked her readers to think about their own signatures. When your editors took an informal poll of the office we discovered, if pressed, the majority of us would claim navy as our signature color. We had a lone dissenting pink. Which leads this editor to wonder if anyone of us can even lay claim to have a signature color. Navy is one of the original fashion basics and as Diana Vreeland once said "pink is the navy blue of India."
Thus perhaps your editors don't in fact have signature colors but prefer to flock to signature basics. When you cope with the constant shifting landscape of trends and cultural signifiers, it may in fact be better to choose a basic, even if its black, to help you navigate getting dressed in the morning. For Between My Peers, we would wager her favorite basic is pewter gray. In tumultuous times we can think of no greater comfort than throwing together basic pieces in basic colors. Times are tough and as good fashionistas we choose navy to keep us on course.
Trend Alert: Little Navy Dresses

LBD. LBD. LBD. I'm just as guilty as the next girl of owning at least ten. The LBD is indeed a fail-safe fashion choice, but what about when you want to mix it up just a tad? Kerry Washington proves that a Luella LND can capture attention just as much as its noir cousin.
The key to standing out in navy is to play with textures. In a flat silk, navy can look very, well, flat. Navy is regal and stunning in satin, fluid jersey, or flirty pleats. The best part? You can have a field day with accessories — especially costume jewelry. And yes: you can wear black shoes with a navy dress! Just pull it together with the rest of your accessories, a moody coat or a smoky eye.
